I read an article in the paper today about John Edwards' wife. Earlier this week, she had found what she believed to be a breast lump. Immediately after John Edwards' speech on Wednesday, after his and Kerry's concession, him and his family rushed for an appointment about the lump. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have no further information as of right now.

we are all praying for her. It was found early enough that she should make a full recovery.

I was gonna post this story, but with all the political arguing, I didn't think anyone would care. But, yea how awful. After months of traveling/campagining, and then losing to boot, you're hit with this horrible news.

I didn't think though they knew yet how serious it was. I hope they did catch it early. Seems like breast cancer is affecting more and more women. Yet, they seem to be a a right road to stop in in early stages. That's good.

While we're on the subject, I assume you all know that the Edwards lost a teenage soon a few years ago in an automobile accident. I can only imagine the grief that would bring. They both seem to have dealt with it well though thankfully.

I would hope when it comes to a persons life people are able to put their political views aside.

I belong to many message boards, some mixed some highly conservative and we are all praying for her.

Wow, this is horrible. Poor Edwards. Remember, he's out of a job too. I hope she gets better.

I hope she will end up okay. You're right, TIS, a lot of times now, they're catching it early. Still, though, the Chemo and the whole recovery process is painful. Cancer is such a scary thing, isn't it? Imagine how tough it is on the family, too.

Christ. Why are so many women getting breast cancer all of a sudden in the last couple of years? Brett Favre's wife was just diagnosed with it too. I hope they both get better. -Pat

My thoughts and prayers to her and her family, and all families going through troubling times like this. It puts everything into perspective.

First off let me say that I really felt horrible when I heard that this poor lady had breast cancer. I hope that everything works out for the Edwards family.

Pat, my theory is that the reason we are hearing more stories about woman getting breast cancer in the last couple of years more than before, is that in this day and age we are now actually more aware of the disease than before. Years ago before the awareness, many woman died "mysteriously" not knowing that this disease was what was killing them. Throughout the years many woman have been made more aware of this disease and thankfully more testing, especially at the early stages are being provided for all woman. More woman have also been educated to try and detect lumps, etc. with self examinations and if they feel that something may be wrong, they are getting medical attention at an early stage of the disease, which makes the odds for fighting it in thier favor. This is a terrible disease and hopefully we'll be able to defeat it in several more years. So far it does seem as though the medical profeesion is headed in the right direction in fighting this disease. While breast cancer is not as common in men as it is in woman, there are many cases of men getting it also.
Just a terrible disease.
