Hi all, Long time no chat. I have been reading and rereading Bonanno's 'Man of Honor' and Raab's 'Five Families' books. You guys know so much and I feel like I'm just starting to scratch the surface on basic timelines/individuals/etc.. Anyway, couple of three things about Joe Bonanno’s net proceeds:

1) Guesstimate: How much did he make in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s?
He was a father for 30 uninterrupted years. While it is left out of his book, this board seems to indicate he was a main heroin supplier for the US with Galante through Sicily and Canada? The proceeds from that alone must have been enormous. (For reference in the 20’s I believe Raab says Luciano was netting 4 million a year from bootlegging). I assume Don Peppino received 10 percent (ish?) from the family rackets. Plus his personal businesses. Let’s be really conservative and say all that adds up to net 1 million per year. X30 years is $30 million. I think it was very lowball estimate.
2) Any speculation on what happened to it? Spent down to zero aka Brewsters Millions?
The reason I ask is because Man of Honor has him living in a normal house, unable to give his daughter in-law $6k, and his youngest son driving a truck for a living. I’m not saying Joe was hard up, but it just doesn’t add up. Did he have to buy his way out of the volcano or something? I would have assumed he made millions over three decades. Am I just falling for Joe's aww shucks routine here and he just couldn't show his wealth for IRS/legalreasons

Who really knows, but it could have been he was afraid of the IRS (or his old family), or he could have been really broke. I guess being able to manage money when you have a huge income is one thing, when you have to make savings last a long time is another.

An example of street life not being the greatest career choice for old age and retirement! I’m sure joe was doing okay but he lived a long time after the 60s when he was forced to leave. To upkeep his lifestyle he was accustomed to as a boss would’ve been impossible. Also I remember reading bill got picked up for some petty crime in the 80s so couldn’t of been that well off. Also why would they do the book and the interviews - this was because they wanted/needed the money. Joe was an original and very old school but the money comes first...

That must have been a huge adjustment, going from having everyone in a NY family kick up to him on a regular basis, to being just another retired guy.

Hmmm. Never thought of it like that. Hes basically shelved by all the northeast boss for good in 1966. Hes out. So hes 62yrs old. But he had to have a fortune i would think. But like someone said bill jr gets 10yrs in late 70tys for stolen credit cards. Ive read joe had all these legitimate businesses. I mean he must have had real estate all over nyc. I wonder if he was a landlord

Could he really have mismanaged his $$$$ that badly though? He seemed like he was a smart guy (before the book) and had to have been for a while there to do what he did. Like others have posted you'd figure he would have invested much of that money in legitimate business and real estate and have his family and their kids set for life or a nice head start.....he should have had generational type money.

But happens to any of these guys' money? Like Luciano's fortune? Carmine Galante? They should have had real wealth, not just been rich.
