Anthony Colombo, who spent two stretches behind bars for mob-related criminal activity after following his late Mafia boss father into the Colombo crime family, died peacefully in his sleep last week from diabetes related ailments that plagued him for decades. He passed away in San Diego, where he has been living for the past year. He was 71.
His death came a year after he likened the fatal shooting of his dad in 1971 to the assassination of President Kennedy in a book, Colombo, The Unsolved Murder. There is no doubt "who pulled the trigger," Colombo wrote, but no one ever learned "who pulled the strings behind the trigger man" in what was a "faulty investigation" by the FBI and NYPD from beginning to end.
Coauthored by Donald Capria, the book is an unapologetic story about Anthony's love and devotion to his father. But it also concedes that Joe Colombo was a powerful mob boss and close associate of Carlo Gambino. The book details talks that the duo had, including Gambino's initial support of Joe Colombo's role as a civil rights icon, and Don Carlo's later change of heart before the June 28, 1971 rally at which the Mafia boss was gunned down and mortally wounded. ganglandnews.com

Thanks guys. I think I might check out the book. I don't want to hear about a conspiracy theory behind his father's death, but it would be interesting to read about the life of a mob boss' son.

@ faithful
You know what's really weird though? I think the consensus in the Colombo family amongst the top guys was that the government did that hit, because they hated the power Colombo was getting with the Italian American civil rights league.
That was Franzeses take on it in his book. And frankly, the hit bears all the hallmarks of the intelligence services as far as their modus operandi for carrying out assassinations. Now I know it sounds SENSATIONAL, but I've never been able to totally discount it. The hit is TOO SIMILAR to JFK, and Anton Cermak, and Oswald.
I remember reading a book once called THE ASSASINATION BUSINESS, and it pretty much outlines this method as the gold standard for doing a high profile- high level hit.
Very crazy, but interesting at the same time..... It does have the hallmarks of a political assassination, if the Mafia wanted him dead they could do it at another time.

Mighty books a snooze. The guy doesnt talk about any crime even thou he was inducted into the colombo family in 1975 according to the feds and greg scarpa. He was even a capo. But doesnt mention a thing or his father was a lcn boss. There a cool pic of him and the carmine p in there i think i forgot already thats a boring book even the old mafia history we all no is kinda shifted into a happy picture. Gambino had his father killed but he swears differently. But only carlo and joey gallo knew the real story but anthony also clears gallo saying his father repsected them and the brother larry was at his wedding so who knows. I got it on my kindle for a few bucks i guess its worth a read. He didnt act like he was superman. Colombo kept the book intentionally vague. Guess he didn't want to appear like a rat, so he and Capria put out a very uninformative book that's heavy on speculation. Since he doesn't know who was behind his father's killer, he decided to blame the feds. Thanks fellas. I don't think I'll rush to get it.
