I've seen stuff online indicating that it's pretty much kaput. Was actually in Pittston last week. What a crappy town. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

In their day they sure were well-integrated into that town, that I will say. But nothing is left, no garment factories. No way for the wiseguys to make money from that old and poor town I guess.

PS Just joined - very informative. Glad to have found this BB.

And D'Elia. But since day one it was apparently obvious then that he couldn't come close to filling in the old mans shoes.

At his peak the family had 45 made men and 70 associates. But in the 70s the police and FBi vowed to destroy the Bufalinos; with the bufalino death in the 90s the family was almost done and D'Elia don't had the force to rebuilt the family.

The family controlled the North West Pennsylvania not only in Pittston.

Frank ''The Irishman'' Sheeran was apparently also a very close associate of Russell Bufalino..

I wonder who will play Bufalino in the coming Scorcese picture about Sheeran adapted from the book ''I heard you paint houses''

DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci, Keitel and Bobby Canavale are all on board and they start filming next year, here's the link:

Thank you. I wonder if they are filming in Pittston? They sure can use a little economic boost. At one time that was as mobbed up as they come.

It's been a couple of years since I read the book but I'm sure most ofthe filming will be in Phili if they don't find a cheaper "looks just like it" location.

I remember getting an impression from Sheeran's book that Bufalino came down to do business a lot in Phili since both Sheeran and Bruno were both based there and he was close to both. In fact I think he only mentioned Pittson/Scraton and actually traveling there a couple of times.

As recent as the early to mid 2000's there were reports of Big Billy D'Elia meeting with Uncle Joe Ligambi in Philadelphia.
