I know this is a repetitive question but I have never really found an estimated number of much bosses such as, Costello, Gambino, Luciano or Bonnano ever made during their reigns.

It was either "Mobstar" Or "Gotti: Rise and Fall" in which I read that Gotti was making $1,200,000 a year just from tribute from his capos. But I also read that Gotti was estimated to have been making around $10-12 million a year in another report. I know bosses usually generate income from operating their rackets as well, but that would mean Gotti would have to been making $9 million from his own businesses to meet the other estimated income reported.

Anyway, any comments would be appreciated.

I'd say a lot.

It's really hard to tell and I would say Gotti probably made more than 1.2 million in tribute alone. At that time they were one of the strongest families and had a ton of capos with some good scams.

It's just too hard to put a good number on any of them because we will never truly know what all they were earning from.

Yeah I understand its pretty hard to estimate how much bosses make, but seriously there's not one book or article that says "Gambino was thought to be making X amount per year"? I've literally only read two estimates of income of mafia guys and they were Gotti and Joe DeFede.

Could you guess what each rank would be making at least?

E.g.

Boss: $ 5million+

Capo: $500k+

Soldier: $0-50k

There's a reason there is nothing out there. Nobody knows!

Meyer Lansky had a fortune estimated at $400-$600 million upon his death.

I think these old time guys would have been the most wealthy. Guys like Luciano, Lansky, Bonanno, Genovese - These guys were young when they got rich during prohibition - then they had another 40 or 50 years after that to continue amassing wealth as heads of their families. Nobody is going to remain the head of a family for 40 years anymore, so they will probably never be as rich as these guys.

Its prob closer to this equation:
1950-70's
Soldier: 50-300k a year (This is a VERY general number. Some soldiers were scaping by on loan and extortion whilst others were involved in racketeering, union etc, so the spectrum is wide)
Capo: 1+ year. In those days Capos had large crews and had institutional influence (unions etc)
Boss: 5+ (head of a family in those days? You have a finger in EVERYTHING. Unions, Drugs, Loan, Extortion, Gamgling etc etc. And you get a piece of it all)

Obv no one knows numbers but considering the reach the mob had 1920-70. GENERALLY speaking a made guy was earning, his capo? Alot. The boss, stupid money.

MORGAN: Why didn't you fight him at the park if you wanted to? I'm not goin' now, I'm eatin' my snack.
CHUCKIE: Morgan, Let's go.
MORGAN: I'm serious Chuckie, I ain't goin'.
WILL: So don't go.

You think that estimate of Gotti making $10 million a year is probably BS then?
