1) not gonna recommend any brand but get a full internet protection suite from a company that is highly rated by customers you should definitely upgrade from what you have running now because it should have blocked the virus in real time since you already called geek squad, might as well go to best buy and ask them for their best seller 2)read this http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/guide-to-internet-security/index.htm3)not being disrespectful.....but if you really want to protect yourself.....get some anti bacterial wipes and wipe down that keyboard...because....uh...you know

I just read the CR link you provided and agree with you, I need to upgrade today. The IT guy at work said the same thing, too many scammers, hackers and viruses online. The Mrs. took the Clorox cleanup to the whole computer area as soon as my Daughter left.

Best bet? Make everyone else get their OWN computers! Chromebooks, like PB said, are cheap and fairly safe if you have wifi coverage. At the very least, have different log-in profiles if you're going to share a computer.
I use Avast antivirus on my main PC. (Norton has always been a total nightmare for me, so, nah). Porn? Chromebook, in an Incognito Window. lol But most importantly -- common effing sense!
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

That's cool NNY,
Also ask the IT guy if he could tell you which suite is light (not slowing down your system) and powerful enough for what you need it for or if he recommends upgrading your RAM to the max and just getting the best protection .
He would know what your best option is as opposed to salesperson at retail store. Thank Gets, I'll ask him about the good points you made, I don't want to compromise the speed.

I recently switched to a Chromebook, and these things are virtually virus proof because there's really no hard drive to speak of. Everything is stored in "the cloud."
Now it's basically useless if you don't have a wireless connection. But it's 2014. Who doesn't have a wireless connection?
And of course I still have an HP all-in-one that I use as a desktop, and on that one I use a basic Norton package that I picked up at Best Buy. Anything more tech savvy than that is beyond my comprehension. PB, thank you for the feedback, it's a desktop and Mom and the Mrs. only use the computer for games and email. Norton seems to be the most recommended. Thanks again.

Thanks Geoff, I'm going to make separate log ins. I'm mainly concerned about the cost of having viruses removed and damage to the computer, the computer is not used to pay bills, do banking or store or transmit any important information, we just use it for entertainment. Thanks again.

On a lighter note the porn was still running on the computer when we got home, two nice looking ladies bumping clams and getting to know each other better anyway after my Daughter screamed at my Grandson for 15 minutes about it, my Mom piped up and said to my Daughter "Oh for Christ Sakes relax, be grateful there wasn't any farm animals in the movie". "OK, Lez-beans! I caught ya! Bumpin' pussies is a violation of jail rules!" I know a lot of gay men who have confided to me how they find lesbian sex to be disgusting and how in their opinion it's not natural for a woman to be sexually attracted to only women, and that the majority of lesbians are this way because they hate men and have had a man do something horrible to the in the past. Get a virus scanning program. If you really want protection you will have to pay for it. Also tell your relatives not to look at porn, open up spam emails, or links in email that are spam. A good virus protection program will recognize the spam links and not allow them to click on them. Or better yet get the email client Mozilla Thunderbird since it will not let spam emails load or allow them to click on the links or open up files that are viruses.

Thanks CAC, I didn't know there was such a program, the Mozilla Thunderbird sounds like what I'm looking for, will check it out, thanks again.
