Is the Muffuletta exclusive to the south? I'm pretty sure most women shave down there these days, LA. But you know southern girls better than I do.

I'm in Philly and the Nodding Head Pub on Sansom St. has a great muffuletta. By the was new to the board, been trolling for a while and think this is a great site. Welcome, padrone. Good to have you here! Mrs. Mark has some friends who go down to "N'awlens" a couple of times a year. Every time they come home they stop at Central right before the airport. We usually get 1 or 2 of the sandwiches and they are absolutely terrific! The olive salad is great and we usually get an entire jar. Throughout Chicagoland and the suburbs, there are many delis that offer some pretty good imitations and versions of the original recipe. Making it at home is also an option if you have a good Italian grocery/supermarket nearby (Caputo's rocks). However, finding the bread that mirrors Central Grocery's exact taste and appearance is next to impossible. Once you have had the original from Central, everything else has a tough time measuring up.

When I went in December for the New Orleans Bowl. I waited in a line outside of Central Grocery for 30 minutes to get two of those bad boys. Ate on them for the rest of the week. It's on the "to do" list every time I head to the Crescent City!
