I'm writing a mystery novel based in 1990 Canarsie, Brooklyn and want to include real places of the neighborhood in it such at the Canarsie Triplex Theater and Seaview Diner. Most of the places I'm including I've had the chance to visit so I can describe them well enough. However, the Bamboo Lounge, a rumored location of members of the Vario family, I hadn't had a chance to see prior to it closing down. Can anyone on here describe its interior and exterior or have images of it? Also, there used to be a bar on Rockaway Parkway between Glenwood Road and Conklin Avenue next to a corner bodega. I can't seem to find any info on that one. Anyone know the name of it? Thanks for any help you may be able to give!
It was one of the hangouts for the family the movie was based on yes. Not sure of it being destroyed in real life though...or even really existing. Seems like nothing is around about it.
I actually want to keep it 1990 but have the accuracy of the places around that year. I had quite a time this last week. I'm a reporter for a Canarsie newspaper (Canarsie Courier) so I dove into our archives for the Jan-Apr 1990 book. I found out that the Bamboo Lounge changed to the Le Parc Nightclub from an ad that was in the papers back then. I searched for that and got in contact with the DJ that was there. He gave me such a fantastically detailed description of the interior then sent my info to Angelo McConnach, the former owner of the Le Parc. I'm waitng for the end of the holidays for him to get back to me with more info but he already told me his family owned the building for over 40 years from his grandfather's McConnach's Pub to the Bamboo Lounge (Sonny Bamboo aka Angelo McConnach, Sr), to his nightclub. I can't wait for his perspective!
LeParc was located on Rockawy pkwy & Ave M. In the early 90's in was a meeting spot for the Vic & Gas loyalist. Every Tues night there was a dinner there guys like Big Frankie Lastorino, Danny & Sal Cutaia, Tommy Red, Nicky (Pops), Georgie Conti, Jimmy Galione would talk about Gases death missions and plans to remain control of the family. Small place located on the corner usually after that the Bklyn crew would closed the joint down and head back to W. 6th & Ave S in bklyn for a card game at ang's club. Just a little history for ya

You can read about it, watch movies and TV documentaries, but chances are unless you lived it you will not truly understand.
