Hey guys i have been following these treads for a little while and find all the information very fascinating. My question is this: I have been hearing a lot of "experts" saying for years that the LCN is a good as dead or at least heading there, while others predict a resurgence of the mob because of LE's increased focus on terrorism. What do you guys think? Can we expect a renaissance for lcn or is it maybe allready happening?

regards Morten.

I'm no expert but I know enough to say its not coming back, and it never will come back no matter how badly mob fanboys might want it to. The Feds will never allow it. End of story

I don't think anybody expect them to reach the same level of power as they had like 40 years ago, but a resurgence doesn't necessarily mean that they will reach that level again smile

Never coming back to where it was but still a lot of activity in some areas

The extreme violence will be down too but money is still being made

The Genovese and Gambinos are still strong families

I wouldnt go as far to say theres gonna be a resurgence but maybe more stabalizing. Both the lucheses and the gambinos have offcial bosses on the street(for now),the bonnanos have difiore unti mancuso gets out, for the colombos andy russo is out, and ofcourse the geneveses have a strong core group of leaders. The mob is far from dead in new york they still have alot of reach in the construction industry, on the waterfronts, and in garbage, through their control over unions. But joeshmo is right, the feds are only going to let those guys bounce back so much until they crack down on them, as evident by the "historic mob take down day" in 2011.

Thanks for answering my question. But how powerfull do you think they are these days compared to other groups in nyc? I remember reading about that incident some years ago between the gambinos and an albanian group that was screwing with their gambling operations. Not really sure who came out of that as the winner.

Don't get me wrong i'm not a fanboy, i just find it quite fascinating.

I think its still safe to say theyre still the most powerful oc group in the tri state area. The albanian rudaj oraganization has been crippled by indictments and are no longer that much of a "threat". And chinese and russian oc groups pretty much stay within their own neighborhoods and havent really been able to entrench themselves into society as the lcn has.

Genovese and Gambino still more powerful than any other group except maybe Mexican cartels but because those families are so diversified they will last much longer .

Gambling and sharking are the core steady cash flows but these guys are still deep in the construction , cement , garbage , trucking and waterfront industries plus high end marajuana wholesalers .There was a report that a 1/3 of wtc rebuild contracts went to Lcn connected companies . The lcn provides a key service in construction as they prevent delays , they are still needed .

However that jan 2011 bust was a media event , a lot of fluff

I will say though I think things have stabilized and even have come back, in NY and NJ there seems to have been a lot more busts in the last 18 months . Again still a ton of activity , it's just more quiet and less violence today .

The non NY/NJ families seem to have shrunk a lot . Philly ain't going anywhere as it's in the culture and they have shooters but they don't have the earnings power or diversity .
Chicago is small and violence is gone but still some earners , however another big bust or 2 and they could be in trouble .

thanks smile As far as I understand their major problem seems to be their recruiting grounds, as the italian-american sub imigrant subculture has been mostly integrated into american middle class. But then again i donĀ“t live in the states, so I just try to follow the news and boards and whatnot. That is why i'm posting here, as i most of you guys know more about it than i do.

Again thanks for the straight up answers.
