Just Curious. The Powerhouse Genovese Family was always allied with the Outfit in the past. When Gotti killed Castellano, I remember being told two Genovese men came to Chicago to discuss what happened in New York. Gigante was really upset about what happened to Big Paul. He HATED Gotti. Gigante was behind the revenge bombings that took place afterward. Luckily for Gotti, he was not in the car. I do not know If Chicago knew about Gigante's plan for revenge against Gotti, But I would bet on it.
I believe Cirillo replaced Gigante, but again I am no expert on New York. Just curious what anybody has to say about Cirillo.

He would USUALLY... But no one questioned it after he did what he did... Vinny did it, and there were no inquiries made, as the expression goes. Although there is evidence to suggest otherwise. The court heard a conversation in January 2005 between Massino and Vincent Basciano, or 'Vinny Gorgeous', the father of the gangster Nicholas was said to have rowed with in the Bronx.
Massino secretly recorded the discussion for the police.
When asked who 'whacked' the mobster's son, Nicholas, Basciano can be heard saying: 'That came from Dom, that came from Dom.'
When pressed in court by prosecutor Taryn Merkl to explain the comments, Massino said: 'I understand that he's telling me Quiet Dom killed his son.'
The footage also shows Massino gesturing with his hand like a gun while asking Basciano: 'Do we have anything to do with that [Nicholas Cirillo's murder]?'
Basciano replies: 'Absolutely not. C'mon.'
Basciano is then heard telling Massino that he met with Dominick Cirillo about the altercation with Nicholas. He said the Genovese family 'came back and apologised to me.'
Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...l#ixzz2Zv2nQEM6Personally Im more inclined to go with the above as hitting Quiet Doms kid without his permission by Vinny is a HUGE risk. Vinny's not that stupid to fuck with the Westside. And Quiet Dom's kid disappearing weeks after the run in? Thats not a sneak job. The Westside would hardly have had to look far. And hitting Doms kid without his permission, infraction or no, would HAVE to call for retribution.

A lot of guys who are capos now come from his crew and still he has influence over.... Not that familiar with NYC, is this common? Sending capable soldiers from one crew to become capo's of others? Or is his crew that strong and full of capable soldiers that it's done because they can? Thanks.

Others get disbanded and guys go with other crews. For example, the Gigante crew was split between Cirillo and Mario Gigante. Fritzy Giovanelli's crew later broke off from Cirillo. Jiggs Forlano's crew split between Charlie Panarella and John Brancato. And Panarella's crew was later split between Bill Cutolo and Joel Cacace. The Catena crew was split between Louis Gatto and Tino Fiumara.

Refering to proposing someone..... Mostly today captains sponsor guys unless they are relatives. If you propose a guy, you lose that income stream, but you have a guy who owes you til the day he dies. Or the day you fuck up and you have to die. Whichever comes first.

my understanding is that jersey garbage got a lot harder for wise guys to infiltrate the last couple of years That's true, but the regulations in Jersey are still easier to beat than in New York where they're getting impossible. Especially the recycling end of the business . But to be perfectly honest, it's only a matter of time before the government tightens up the regulations on that side of the bridge, too. But in the meantime, half-a-dozen or so guys are cutting up a fortune in paper contracts. Same handful of guys who were getting rich from garbage twenty years ago are staying rich in recycling today. That old saying money goes to money? It's even truer in the street than it is in legitimate business.
