I know this must be an odd question, but what's the difference between the book and movie, if there is one? And, is it worth buying? My local book store has one, and I was wondering if I should get it.

I thought the same thing recently but I bought the book about 3 weeks ago, and Im about 45 pages away from finishing it, and lemme tell you its a classic masterpeice man. It gives so much more detail about things and once you read it you can truly call yourself a Godfather "buff". There are as some people said "parts of no interest" with certain characters but all in all, without the book there would be no movie so just on that note think about it and next time you visit your local bookstore, pick the thing up and I promise or at least hope you wont be able to keep your head out of that book cause its aewsome, IMHO.

go get it DM. its a very good read and you'll get a lot of details on everyone's character. like how bad Luca Brasi was, how Al Neri got into the Corleone family, the story on Karthoum . . .

Yes, yes, yes! Puzo was a fine storyteller, and he put many richly detailed stories in the novel that didn't make it into the films. One of my favorites, in addition to the ones GoodFella mentioned, was the tale of the Bocchicchios.

[Linked Image] I must put my 2 cents in and cast my vote in favor of you reading the book, Dream Master. Athough it can be considered a long book, it's a fast and fun read, with great details as Turnbull said.
I remember when the book first came out, EVERYBODY on the subway was reading the book, rush hour or not. It was amazing to see all races and all ages reading the same book ( anyone remember that?). No one had seen the movie, 'cause it hadn't come out yet, and it is the only book that had a movie made from it in which I wasn't I wasn't disappointed when I saw it (Green Mile also).
I say read it!!!! Let us know if you like it.

I sure do, BK! A big improvement over today, when everyone yaks on cellphones.

Hi,
Here is a good one. In one of the scenes in "Looking For Mr Goodbar" there is a copy of The Godfather sitting on the counter where Diane Keaton is siting when she is looking to pick up someone. Coincidence.
