Well, as far as actual families I believe that we can all agree that the following ones make their fair presence in todays American underworld:
NYC / Genovese, Gambino, Lucchese, Bonanno and Colombo NJ / De Cavalcante PHIL / Bruno (with two crews in NJ) NE / Patriarca IL / Outfit MI / Tocco
As far as the Tampa, Kansas City, St. Louis, New Orleans and Cleveland families I can't deny that there might be some tiny, close-to-be-insignificant operation still going on but since that whatever is left would't fit any RICO mumbo jumbo, we can chill and simply label them as Italian-American gangs, no?

Kansas city still has a sizable amount of activity. There was a multi million dollar sports betting bust a few years back That doesnt mean anything. A small book with 10 good customers could qualify as a million dollar sports betting ring. Not that big a deal Exactly. A relatively small bookmaking bust does not make a crime family. Other than the 5 NY families, the only ones left are small families in New Jersey, New England, Philadelphia, Chicago, and maybe Detroit.

And those numbers are always inflated to boot. Nicky, I love ya. But you gotta stop looking for wiseguys where there aren't any. By the time you're my age, it'll all be over, or it'll be changed radically. So make sure you stay in school .

Here is a reason why Kansas city would probably have a better chance of with standing the government: kc has real family members, like cousin uncles brothers nephews and marriages. Plus the hard to find info on that family the stronger they'll survive The same nonsense is said about the Detroit family. Ny doesn't have all they got are rats....on every corner. Sorry but here another thing don't ever try to fuck. Any living breathing wiseguy nowhere because somehow in someway no matter what city they're all connected Were you drunk when you typed this?

The current Chicago Outfit is split into two factions--Cicero and Elmwood Park. Salvatore Cautadella and Jimmy I run Cicero for Michael Sarno...with Frank Caruso's 26th Street Crew reporting into them along with a small crew in Chicago Heights and NW Indiana. Their rackets tend to focus more on the street crimes--juice, extortion, burglary, etc.
Solly D is a Cicero guy with no real "crew" in Lake County. He simply lives there and Cicero guys run any rackets up there. He and Jimmy I are the powers in Cicero, with Sammy Cuatadella, his brother and Pudge Matassa working for them, among others. There certainly have been guys made in Cicero and 26th Street since 2003. Steve Panzarella being one of them.

Was it Solly Sr. who died last year? His son Solly Jr. died tragically from a heart condition during a charity motorcycle ride last year. Solly Sr. resides in Wauconda now with a new wife who runs a carpet cleaning service. No Nose owns properties up and down Grand Avenue through Elmwood Park. He and his wife once were living in one of the apartments. It was very modest. His brothers Petey and Joe both reside in Barrington I believe.
