He was already a multi millionaire before he even became boss. Born into a not poor family. What was the need for him to pursue that life? Family ties? Greed? Why that bumbled fiasco in Hartford, CT that sent him to Hartford County Jail, for what 3 months? Then celebrated as if he was the second coming? I don't get it? What had this guy done in the life before ascending the throne?
N..... or no, bastard had balls, shame to kill him... I got nuthin', I got nuthin...

Having investments in a lot of businesses, legitimate and illegitimate, and pulling the strings as a powerful figure in organized crime while relying on his family ties.

Just thinking about it he must of been earning a fortune up to his death, 22/24 capo's kicking up, control of industries, waterfront dealings, construction plus all the meat stuff he owned. Also legitimate business. He was greedy and asked for a big kick up. So how much do you think he was worth if you could estimate an amount? Would it compare to say Wall Street bosses etc? By the time Big Paul got his beak wet, he was picking up Chump Change. That is why he squeezed his crews because he knew of the Golden ages before him and expected that. Gambino was the Carnegie, Vanderbilt and Ford of Organized Crime. Gambino took and learned from all, including Big Pauls Silver spoon. DP

DP Castellano squeezed his crews for a big chunk of their profits because his greed knew no bounds. Not because he wasn't making plenty of money on his own from his interests in construction, the meat business, etc. For example, Lucchese boss Tony Corallo was heard on tape griping about how Castellano received a $250,000 payment each year from one construction company. Castellano referred to the annual quarter-million dollar payment as the company throwing him "a bone." Good stuff; I wish we could hear other solid references of actual accounts from the past on all the collections/ tributes and points totaled by Era DP
