To Quote Turnbull on a previous post, "Luca was the only man around him that the Don couldn't completely control. The novel says that Luca is "like a natural force--like lightning."

My question is, does that mean that the Don was afraid of Luca to a certain extent, perhaps afraid he could "flip" and maybe try to murder the Don in his own office? Any help would be great on this! Holla Back...

I take it as meaning Don Corleone was wary of Luca, knowing what the man is capable of. He didn't have to fear Luca, per se, since Luca was unquestioningly loyal, but still was uncomfortable dealing with him since Luca was so fearsome and there was always a chance, however slight, that he could turn against the Corleones.

Wayne's right: "wary" is the right word to describe the Don's attitude. I think it meant that the Don had to take great care to maintain Luca's loyalty, lest Luca either turn on him or cause inadvertent damage through sheer force.

I doubt Luca would ever turn traitor, as he owes the Don for the whole baby incident in the novel. Luca also feared Don Corleone.

yes that´s right luca also feared don corleone. you can easily see this in gf part 1. at the weeding when luca wants to speak with his don. first he sits in front of the house and he´s thinking and replaying the things he want to say to the don. he prepare hisself to talk with the don.

ciao
