I am an avid fan of Scarface, as a girl I am not into all the blood, talking and killing in most gangster movies. But I don't see Scarface as a gangster movie, it is about being the underdog and rising to the top. But one thing i question. Why does everyone think Tony lusts after Gina in an "incest" sort of way? I think Tony is very protective of his sister since he knows how most of the "men" he associates with are bad news.

Tony doesnt lust after Gina. In my opinion what he is doing is desperately trying to preserve the only `pure` thing that is left in his life. He tries to do this by segregating her from his world and all the people in it. Also, remember that Tony had a long spell without seeing Gina while he was in Jail, Maybe he feels that he has a lot of Protective Brotherly duties to fulfill. cool

I do agree with you. Tony didn't want Gina to become corrupted by the lifestyle that he chose, but in the end his protective ways are what are what got her killed in the end.

i wonder what made elvira actually leave? i wonder if she finally realized the life she had chosen, and she also realized that Tony killed Frank and that in the end she would die like Frank?

So I think that Elvira did play an important part in the movie, I do know that Tony had drive and determination to get the American Dream, but after he saw Elvira it was love at first sight, and he would stop at nothing to get her, so I think she actually gave him a little extra push.

Bubblehead,

Welcome to the boards. I am looking forward to having a true Scarface fan contribute to this thread. As for why Elvie left Tony, have you ever read Return Of SF? If you havn't then I suggest that you do. As a Scarface fan I think that you will enjoy the book.

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

i have heard and read some reviews about the book. However, I am a fan of Scarface because of everything the movie symbolizes.

For some reason, I do think Tony had some incestuous feelings toward his sister. When Gina comes into his office at the end she says, "This is what you've always wanted, isn't it? Why would she have said that if she didn't feel he looked at her in that way?

In way you could view the whole situation from both sides. From one view you could say that Tony had incestuos feelings towards his sister. Especially after the way he reacted towards manny after the first time we see Gina in the movie.

But by the same token after watching that scene you could get the feeling that Tony was being very protective. Cause as others have said Gina was the one pure innocent thing in Tony's life, and he wanted to keep her that way.
