Chicagos infamous underboss Anthony Zizzo went missing one day,and no1 knows what happend, some say his dead, some say he went hiding, heres some article written by Chuck Goudie...

September 21, 2006 (WLS) -- It has been exactly three weeks since the underboss of the Chicago mob was last seen. In this Intelligence Report: the search for Anthony Zizzo, and what could have prompted his vanishing act?

Anthony Zizzo is currently the major domo of the Chicago mob, considered by law enforcement to be the outfit's No. 2 man or "underboss." Officially, Zizzo is considered a missing person. But in the mob, "missing" is historically defined as "deceased but not located." And in Zizzo's case, the clues left behind certainly point that direction.

Anthony Zizzo drove away from his condominium in the west suburbs three weeks ago, August 31. He said goodbye to his wife Susan and left to conduct some business, possibly a meeting in the Rush Street area on Chicago's near North Side.

When the bespectacled Zizzo didn't return home, his wife came to the Westmont Police Station to fill out a missing persons report. The report, obtained by the I-Team, states that the 71-year-old Zizzo is very ill with kidney failure but left home without his daily medication. He was wearing a grey shirt with black pants black shoes and a black jacket.

Susan Zizzo told police he possibly diverted to their vacation home in Lake Geneva but his I-Pass had not been used. That's because her husband apparently only made it as far as Melrose Park. His Jeep was found in a restaurant parking lot on Division Street. The restaurant owner tells the I-Team that Zizzo was a regular customer but that he doesn't recall seeing him there the day he vanished. According to an alert sent to Chicago area law enforcement, the car was undisturbed and Zizzo's cellular telephone equipped with a GPS tracking device was still in the car.

Zizzo was a key operative of the late Chicago rackets boss Sam "Wings" Carlisi. Zizzo specialized in loan sharking and extortion, is considered a trusted outfit enforcer and claimed to be a legitimate trucking business owner. He goes by a list of mob aliases including: Little Tony, LT, Tony Z and Tony the Hat. He is "Little Tony" in height, just a bit over 5 feet tall, but hardly small in girth -- his 200 pound frame prompting the official police report to describe his build as "pot belly."

Law enforcement sources say the FBI crime scene technicians processed Zizzo's car looking for clues as to who might have hustled him off. The FBI role strongly suggests that Zizzo was not suddenly put into federal witness protection.

Mobwatchers and outfit lawyers say they cannot explain why there might have been a contract on Zizzo's life. He did prison time in a mob racketeering case in the 90s but was not charged in the current operation family secrets

and some good information about the whole thing...

Zizzo was feuding with reputed Cicero street crew boss Michael “Big Mike” Sarno, 52, and “that came to a crescendo just before Zizzo was last seen,” according to a confidential federal informant described in the court document as an upper-echelon member of the Outfit who has been providing information to the government for more than 25 years. The informant is not identified.

Sarno is charged with ordering the bombing of a Berwyn company in 2003 that was competing with an Outfit-sanctioned video poker business. Federal prosecutors T. Markus Funk and Amarjeet Bhachu have alleged that Sarno used his ties to a motorcycle gang leader to carry out the pipe-bombing.

Sarno has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Zizzo, and Sarno’s attorney, Michael P. Gillespie, rejected Friday any suggestion that Sarno had anything to do with Zizzo’s fate.

“That’s absolutely ridiculous,” Gillespie said. The attorney also said that claims that Sarno is a mob leader are “just not true.”

The dispute between Sarno and Zizzo is not specified in the court document, which quotes an FBI affidavit filed in the case.

Both men, though, have allegedly been involved in a highly profitable mob business that has resulted in violence before.

Zizzo, at one point, oversaw video gambling for the mob. He was the boss of Anthony “The Hatch” Chiaramonti, who was gunned down outside a Brown’s Chicken and Pasta in suburban Lyons in 2001 in a dispute over video poker territory.

Sarno is also allegedly involved in the video poker business, along with illegal bookmaking and juice money collection, and is known for his fearsome reputation on the street.

Both Sarno and Zizzo were among the reputed mobsters listed as threats to the physical safety of Nicholas Calabrese, a mob killer turned star federal witness in the historic Family Secrets case against mob leaders.

Sarno, now under house arrest, recently made headlines when he was allowed to attend a family Christmas-time dinner last year at the swanky Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab in downtown Chicago.

Anybody knows WHY he was killed? He looked like a child molestor, just saying.

He was killed because his crew (the Carlisi/Marcello Crew) were all either dead or locked up. There was no one to protect him from the Ferriola/Infelice faction (Mike Sarno, etc) of the Cicero Crime Family.

So Cicero took him out to expand their territory? I find that hard to believe. He was allegedly 'Underboss' and it doesn't seem like Chicago to whack out a boss for territory (exception-Colosimo, but that was 100 years ago)

All in all, hoodlums are hoodlums and someone would probably killed off everyone in the administration if they made a buck on it. Thats the mob today.

So is Sarno really a heavy hitter in the Outfit? I've read where some considered him a true thug and some claim he is up the ladder. I'm like pizza guy, I'd like to learn more about Chicago without all the b.s. that seems to be injected into every thread.

Sarno is with Cicero as well right?

Sarno was indicted in 2012, he's doing 25 years. Thus meaning he isn't anybody anymore. He'll probably be dead before he gets released - or the Outfit might be dead.

The Cicero Crime Family was made up of two separate factions: the Ferriola/Infelice Family, which operated out of Cicero/Berwyn, and the Carlisi/Marcello Family, which operated out of Melrose Park.

During the late 90s/early 00s, Tony Zizzo & his underboss Hatch Chiarmonti tried to take control of the entire Cicero Crime Family, on behalf of their boss, Little Jimmy Marcello, who was imprisoned at the time. Mike Sarno, who was a member of the Ferriola/Infelice Family (he was a protégé of Bobby Salerno), took both of them out, acting on behalf of his bosses (Jimmy Inendino & Solly DeLaurentis).

Make sense?

Sarno made huge strides within the Ferriola/Infelice Crime Family when his daughter married into the Inendino family.

Huron, I agree with all of that except Sarno taking out both of them. Anthony Calabrese took out Hatch. A.C was know to associate with Jimmy I.

Huron said that Sarno was acting on behalf of Inendino, who was imprisoned at the time.

Where did Tornabene fit into all of this?

Tornabene was a Cicero crew guy, but he was very close with the south side as well.

He was older than the Carlisi and Ferriola factions themselves, so I guess he was a neutral player in all of that, right?

He became consigliere so I kind off doubt it. He probably didn't whack anybody but he sure made decisions along with the others. I am just speculating.

There has never been a traditional "consigliere" role in Chicago. And you're correct snakes, neutral for the most part. He was definitely a very low key guy, you didn't even see his name in the papers until the last few years of his life.

The feds had virtually nothing on him before Nick's testimony. Pretty amazing for somebody who had been involved nearly sixty years at that point.

He had been mentioned a few times in union matters in the nineties and he got busted on a few minor gambling offenses back in the day. But nobody had anything on him other than that. He didn't even have an FBI number at the time of Family Secrets!

Sarno's niece (who he has served as a father figure for her) married an Inendino cousin. A lot of people have thought (including myself because I know some of them personally)that Sarno's daughter married Little Sammy I. Not the case. Jimmy and Mike are related through marriage yes, but not through their kids -rather through their nieces and nephews.

Here is the "skinny" on Tornabene (people always wonder about his background): his mother was Sam Carlisi's younger sister Maria. The Carlisi brothers were born in New York. Two of them (Al and Sam) came to Chicago to stay with family. The father (Joseph Carlisi) I believe was a major East Coast mobster. Rosario - Sam and Al's oldest brother - was a major powerhouse in the Buffalo mob. Sam was the youngest of his brothers.

Maria Carlisi married into the Tornabene family and named each of her own sons after her brothers - Sam, Al and Rosario (Roy).

All the Tornabene brothers grew up working with their Uncles Sam and Al Carlisi at the Starlight Inn in Cicero. Al Carlisi was a major nightlife guy in Cicero - he had a few places and I believe he worked for Joey Aiuppa. His younger brother Sam Carlisi (the younger brother) was used to lisasion between crews in the 50s and 60s - this is a role I believe Al Tornabene eventually took over and was acting as during Family Secrets.

Al Tornabene founded Villa Nova in the 50s and it had 4-5 locations at one point - he was a self made legitimate businessman in his own right - like many made Outfit members. But he ran with the Outfit.

My take however is that Tornabene was not the major power people made him out to be - he was more a messenger between crews - from Grand Avenue to Elmwood Park to Rockford. And Al reported to the Marcello's.

Oh that's right, but Nicole Sarno considers Mike a father figure.
The Sammy I she married is I believe Jimmy's nephew, no? Or maybe his cousin's kid.

Either way, Nicole Sarno is like a daughter to Sarno & it was a big move for him at the time to have his name aligned with that family.

I believe he was indeed locked up in 2001.

Tony Calabrese was just an associate. You think I meant Sarno killed Hatch & Zizzo with his own two hands? Lol, the guy was an acting boss. I meant he ordered the hits.

Sarno & Jimmy I are both Ferriola guys.
