The mob guys that they name themselves after hate blacks? Ive seen some rappers name themselves after black mobsters (Frank Mathews,Nicky Barnes,Bumpy Johnson , etc) but most take their names after white mobsters who typically hated black people.

Yeah it's silly isn't it. But its just a way to help sell CDs by using someone else's notoriety.

Kinda hoping one of them will choose Whitey Bulger soon tongue

I'd love that. Bunch of hip hop kids being interviewed "I love Whitey, Whitey's the man. Whitey has the best music, the best style."

Theres another recent thread on this same subject. http://www.gangsterbb.net/threads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=661717#Post661717
The rappers do it mostly for name recognition and marketing but to be honest its only really small number of them that do it.

Whats sad is that some of these rappers think they are real gangsters. Such as 50 cent. He idolizes Tony Montana.

lol Remember the rapper off the Sopranos.

What amazed me was that Adriana was actually afraid of that " gangster rapper."

LOL

She goes to Chris " Thats the gangster rapper Massive Genious! I told you to keep your mouth shut!"

Yeah like Christopher had anything to worry about. That little gangster rapper would have been eaten alive if he tried to do anything.

Although i do agree that most rappers were probably not real life criminals but there have been many exceptions and also many of the people they hang out with are real life thugs and gangsters and sometimes the labels themselves are just fronts for criminal activity. Heres a thread i created laying out the different label that have been implicated in drug trafficking ,murder and money laundering. http://www.gangsterbb.net/threads/ubbthr...true#Post656629
the sopranos isnt a very good reference point because its a fictional tv show.

My bad wilson, wasn't implying that you did. That episode of the sopranos was pretty interesting though.

Great example is the rapper Rick Ross. First he takes the name of the LA druglord Rick Ross as his stage name, then he names one of his albums "Teflon Don", and then names one of his mixtapes "The Albert Anastasia LP". Funniest part is he is a former correctional officer and now claims hes a gangster lmao.

These days I just look at rappers and laugh. I mean some have actual talent, like Tupac and whole bunch of others actually did come from the street and lived a rough life until they found the music industry. But most of them are just pussies who have a "Good" voice and rap about gangsters. So really although they do seem like Gangsters and maybe even live like the top gangsters in the world, really they don't cut at all close.

Tony Soprano : I thought I told you to back off Beansie!

Richie Aprile : I did, Then I put it in drive..

Not that im defending todays rappers but with the money they are making...well they can dream and see them self's as a mob guys with 10 mil bucks on their account and finance every crime group in their neighborhood and get "protection"

It's and image folks. And lets be honest, the average American is a complete effing moron that is infatuated with MTV and "thug life" so it platys right into their "gangsta" hands.

Rappers who incorporate Mafia or OC into their stage names/image are doing it to appeal to the people that buy their product. The largest segment of their fan base, and most desirable demographic, is suburban white males. Lots of these kids (and young adults) are wannabees, whether it be gangsters or gangstas. They are the ones that buy the CD's,the clothing, the bling, that drives the business. The rap culture is heavily reliant on crime and violence as their marketing strategy and it doesn't matter if it's Capone or Scarface,or Matthews,or Gotti, the nitwits with money will respond. As the French say "a fool will always find a bigger fool to admire him".

White people are more sensitive to use of N word than many African-Americans are. Black people won't admit it, but they use the word as a pronoun in conversations often.

The rap culture is heavily reliant on crime and violence as their marketing strategy . I refute your statement. It's not the culture but corporate media that sponsor this hardcore/studio gangsters genre which sells. Not the entire culture as a whole. If "conscious " rap was the major seller than their mostly will be a different view.

I think that's a myth. Not that I don't believe a lot of young white guys listen to rap. But I'd bet good money more young black kids listen to it. It's not like a big portion of black youth are listening to Zeppelin, Mozart, or Garth Brooks.

When I used the term "rap culture",I was referring to the fan base of the gangsta rappers. I know that the culture as a whole doesn't represent these values. As for the corporate media, guys like Tupac,Biggie,Flav,50Cent,Snoop,etc,were already criminals on their own without any corporate image making. They made a conscious decision to continue to write and produce the kind of gun, drug, and pimp crap that would make them money.

They could have chosen to make more positive product, but they knew that the fan base they needed wouldn't support it. I have no problem with this, and I agree with you that it is marketing. My point is that the Corporate Media didn't create the crime and violence driven genre, they just responded to it by giving the fan base what it already wanted.

I disagree...name 1 mobster that a rapper named himself after???

Most rappers name themselves after al capone, capone related to thier struggle as an dark complexted ittallian man white people treated him the same way

"McGurn likes you, so I make you. So you are now one of us, if you fuck up, we take it out on McGurn. He is your sponsor. Fuck up, it's his ass. You work in his crew, he is your capo."
