Did anybody notice a new Godfather Part III edit on AMC's Mob Week 2012 yesterday (August 2)?
I'm not a fan of watching the trilogy on cable/TV with all the God forsaken commercials. However while working out at planet fitness gym, I noticed on one of the monitors that is always tuned to AMC, a different opening to the Godfather Part III, [i][NOT the alternative opening that is included on the DVD extras/i]. It sorta glossed over the last 45 min of Part II and condensed it to like 5-7 min showing the whole deteriation of Michael's marriage and relationship with Fredo, intercerpted with cuts of Michael on the park bench and ending with this same iconic last shot of Part II. It fades up on the shot of 1979 Manhattan and continues the same as the normal version. The opening montage of the Part II ending left out the murder of Fredo until it is seen the way it was when Michael looks back on it during the Church ceremony in 1979 New York.
I watched this with the sound off but with the hearing impared titles on. DID ANYBODY SEE THIS???
It is on again August 5 at 2:00 am

AMC restored The Godfather Saga some time ago. This is the alternate intro of The Godfather Part III as seen in I believe The Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980, another TV version FFC did when he needed more money.
"It was between the brothers Kay -- I had nothing to do with it."

I saw it several years ago. I liked the edit because it showed Michael's decline and caught the viewer up re: the storyline. The edit really crystallized the guilt Michael had been carrying for killing Fredo.
