Certainly one of the best British gangster films ever made--Bob Hoskins is superb--and I definitely prefer it to the slightly more recent "Gangster No.1" (2000), although that's also well worth seeing IMO.

In the last scene the director was telling Hoskins the story (off screen) so Hoskings could pull faces while listening :-). I liked the part where the American mafioso say somtheing like: "We don't deal with gangsters" .
