Are their any new Bosses caught on a wiretap or heard complaining about capos not kicking up to them what they did to the previous boss? Does a family keep track how much the capos kick up? What keeps capos from not kicking up on some schemes especially if a new boss does not know about it? Obviously the death penalty but it has to happen.

I'm not sure what you mean about new but there have been bosses either on wiretap or via informants who have complained vociferously about this or that captain or soldier not sending up enough tribute.

I don't think the Family as a organization would keep track of a particular capo's earnings but the boss and those close to him certainly would. Some of that info might become semi-public info among higher ranking family members.

The more experienced or smarter a boss is, the longer he's been in the rackets or the better businessman he is the more accurate will be the picture he has of a given racket, or a particular mobster's earning capacity. Green bosses, or bosses that are just stand-in's for someone else (Junior Gotti) might not have such a good estimate of what everyone is making or what a particular racket is worth.

Yes, getting caught holding out is worthy of death but on the other hand everyone cheats since they are all criminals. The trick is not to do it in such a way that it is a clear insult to the boss.

The main thing that might keep a capo from cheating is that if this was a peaceful transition, the old boss might have told the new boss exactly the range of payments to expect from each capo. So if a capo shows up each month with $10,000 and claims that's what he gave the previous boss when the new boss knows the monthly tribute is to be at least $50,000, that capo might be asking to be made an example of.


The other way the boss might know the difference is that someone in the capo's crew might take it upon himself to tell the boss. That's dangerous though since a boss might thank him for the info and then kill him for being a rat.

Back in 2003 (11 years after he had been imprisoned) Vic Amuso became suspicious that Joe Defede had been holding out on him because future acting bosses like Crea and Daidone were kicking up more to him than Defede did while he was acting boss. Defede, himself, claimed he made "only" $1.14 million while he was acting boss; from 1993 to 1998. So it may have been others were holding out on Defede.

Defede may have been holding out. Or it may have been a case of guys holding out on him, so he was being truthful to Amuso about how much he was kicking up.

in both cases you have to kick up money cause the family helped you either through rackets that you worked in or through their connections or through their cash that allowed you to get that business then you have to kick up a percentage
