Here is another mobster not talked to much known as Johnny Burns was in the Bonanno crime family, born in Castellamare Del Golfo Sicily, and was a right hand man to Carmine Galante.

I had thought that Morales had been closer to Bonanno then Galante. Despite him (Galante) being the official underboss, Morales seems to have more or less held the position during Lilo's prison bid and later became Acting Boss before passing to Frank Labruzzo.

Although he stayed loyal to Bonanno, he was eventually shelved along with Bill.

Its not a rule set in stone that Italian names can only end in vowels.

Although according to some Italian etymological works I've read, often such names are "foreign" in the sense that a family may have arrived only a few centuries ago instead of tracing back further.

Senter, Martines, Campos, DeAngelis, all Italian names. Im sure there's more.

His name sounds Mexican. He probably changed it.

You think he changed it too sound like a Mexican? I dont know Sonny. I dont think its that out of the ordinary for a guy to have a name like that; sure its less common but a normal none the less.

Thanks for that, pretty cool. There are quite a few people with the last name Morales in Italy from what that map shows. They say the Camorra started in Spain so it's possible that some of those guys came to Italy and brought their Spanish last names with them. Don't know any SPaniards with that last name now however.

Johhny Morales was said to be related to Bonanno through marriage, and according to Honor Thy Father botht he book and movie was reputed to have switched sides near the end of the Bananas War to the DiGregorio side, other reports say that he remained loyal to Joe B and was shelved...

That makes sense, they say that the Spanish soccer team that won the world cup was made up of alot of players from the catalan region, I imagine the Italian team probably has some players of catalan ancestry.
