I just started reading this book and was excited to see there was a book on Tommy Pitera but the first 100 pages I read Pitera is mentioned in only 37. It does have a good chapter on Galante's murder but it seems Carlo never interviewed Pitera or his family that he redundantly goes over and over the same information and descriptions of Pitera. Like, I said I just finished page 100. Do you guys have any thoughts or comments on this book and Carlo?

I actually didn't mind this book. Sure, Carlo was a bit of a hack journalist, but he was a decent writer IMO. True, Carlo's work was too full off sloppy inaccuracies to be taken at complete face value, like we do Capeci or Anastasia or such of that calibre.
Still, I feel like he at least offered some insight into the actual character and mindset of guys like Gaspipe Casso, Frank Gangi and Kuklinski through his books, though in that last example of course, it seems like Kuklinski would have talked to anybody willing to listen. Which in a way could be said about all the guys Carlo actually interviewed and spent time with.
(cough.)

It's was terrible. Didn't really detail things and kept repeating things all over again. He had to tell a story based in Canada to expand the book

I've read the Carlo books - 'The Iceman', 'The Butcher' and 'Gaspipe', whilst I genuinely enoyed reading them all I do think they were more like stories and his own opinions as oppose genuine well documented fact. I appreciate that in the criminal underworld it must be very difficult to ever truely convey anything as gospel truth but ultimately when it came to these 3 books there were too many inaccuracies. As said previously though all were still a good read.
