Let's face it Anyone that would kill his own brother intentionally, especially a brother who was weak minded and not really responsible for his actions, is a cold blooded bastard. That is why I liked and accepted GFIII for what it was. I liked that it showed Michael's sorrow, remorse and search for peace and forgivness for "killing his father's son." Remember something, because of Michaels cold blooded ways, in the end, he lost everything that he truly loved, directly and indirectly by his own hand! The end scene in GFIII shows this as he is thinking of everyone that he loved and lost because of the life he had chosen. But because of all of these different attributes, the Michael Corleone character was one of the best! Don Cardi

Turnbull, I agree that Michael always had a choice. But, as we all know gangsters do, they choose that lifestyle for a reason, sometimes revenge, most of the times, greed. While Michael did not have to assume the role of Don, it was also a choice, and a relief of burden on the part of Don Vito.

I agree with Don Cardi. Michael was a great guy at first. Yet Turnbull is right referring to him as a tragic figure, which he ended up in the end. The fact that he "turned" after the attempt on his father's life, makes me think he must have always had it in him, so to speak. Yet when we see the young Michael adamantly stating "it's my father Kay, it's not me" he seemed so sincere and I'm sure he meant it at the time. If I can play amateur physchiatrist, I'd say Michael's transformation was due to trying to keep not only his anger & hate, but really every emotion, good and bad "in tact". It's almost like he felt he had to be "calm and on-guard" at all times, which is probably why he became so dangerous in the end. If I'm not mistaken, the only time Michael really 'lost it" was when Kay lost the baby and he yelled at Tom, asking "was it a boy?" and then at Kay when she told him she had an abortion. Right????? However, with Fredo, as angry/hurt as he was, he kept a calm exterior. TIS
