at the very very end of GF2, michael is sitting in a chair outside, very pensive (thinking of the past). on his left hand is a wedding ring band. Why?. Is this a blooper? he and kate have already split up! I need an answer why, this is f*ing me up !!

Scenes are usually never shot in chronological order. He probably forget to remove it from a prior scene and continuity failed to catch it.

or in his guilt from hitting kay, and "love still for her" he kept it on to remind him of his actions, after all the guilt from striking her led him to grant her the divorce and let her take the kids to New Hampshire.........

What's interesting about this scene is that it was originally meant to portray Michael years later in a scene with an 18 year old Anthony.

That's according to the final draft of the screenplay. Many people believe the films ends in 1959 and Michael all of a sudden turned old...

I've always noticed the ring and also thought of it as his guilt and that he truly did still love Kay.

That's the most likely explanation.

Michael may have kept wearing the ring to help maintain his "legitimate" facade. A married man seems much more respectible than a bachelor in certain circles. I'm sure that was even more true 50+ years ago.

It might have reflected Michael's outward Catholicism, which wouldn't recognize divorce.
