We've occasionally had posts regarding things we've seen in the background despite having seen the movie umpteen times. Last night I began my Christmas-New Year's viewing of the Trilogy.

At Connie's wedding there is the memorable scene of Clemenza dancing and then the line "Paulie, more wine..." During that dancing, on the left I could swear it's Fredo dancing although you only see the back or side of his face.

Hey, what are you a dance judge or something?

Go take a walk around the neighborhood -- do your job.

lol

Just kidding...

I have to watch the scene again. I think Fredo's first apperance is at Michael's and Kay's table! But maybe you are right...

MaryCas, you could be right or you could be wrong.

Either way, I think you've been spending too much time hanging around certain other BB members who seem fond of discussing GF minutae. Tell me...this person you see dancing in the background at Connie's wedding that looks like it might be Fredo, is he holding some small silver object in his hand? If so, what do you think it might be???

MaryCas, you could be right or you could be wrong.

Either way, I am glad to see that you still have such a lust for this movie and it's attention to fine detail, unlike some other members here who seem to think that there is something wrong in discussing GF "minutae." lol

MC, I must agree with you that every time I watch the Godfather, I always do find some new facet that interests me, even if it would be considered inconsequnetial to some. rolleyes

I never noticed Fredo at the wedding until his drunken conversation with Mike and Kay, but I suppose you could be right. I'm reading The Godfather Legacy by Lebo right now and I thought it was interesting how FFC insisted on putting in the scene with Tessio dancing with the little girl standing on his shoes. As an Italian-American, FFC remembered that there was always at least one older man who would dance with a little girl like that at weddings, and felt that it added an authentic ethnic detail. As we know, FFC was a stickler for details like this which add to the movie's richness and texture.

And, of course, that's why we love it so much!!

After all these years and all these viewings I thought only minutae was left. grin

I believe the silver object is the hood ornament from a 1939 Cadillac Seville (the four door, not the two door, which was only manufactured in July).

And I almost forgot. If you look closely you can see a small piece of toilet paper stuck to Clemenza's shoe, I believe the left heel. tongue wink

I think it's really the bus fumes on Rt 17 as I drive to Rochelle Park, NJ combined with the swamp gas behind our office building. BTW, the Mountain Valley Brew Pub site may soon be a senior citizen complex. frown

...not to let this thread die (like Fredo in a lake) I just paused the DVD a few times to confirm my suspicions. The first time we see Fredo is when the family poses for the "wedding picture" and the Don does his 'where's Michael" bit; Fredo is to our left next to Sonny. THEN, the dancing scene with Clemenza and some old guy, Fredo is to the left. THEN, Fredo is seen briefly when Sonny tells his wife to watch the kids, THEN, comes the Michael, Kay, lasagne, let's meet Fredo scene.

AOY, you may ask, "So, what?" I concur. tongue

The answer is obvious. It is a silver dollar from Moe Green's casino. It is a foreshadowing of the fact that Fredo would end up working for Moe, but it is also a secret plot device which cleverly tells us that Fredo will end up dead in Lake Tahoe. We know this because there was a lot of silver mining in that part of the country when the Ben Cartwright family owned what later became the Corleone Tahoe estate. You should also notice that EVERYONE who died in the godfather movies touched a piece of silver at one time or another...whether it was a fork, a knife, jewelry or a coin. What was McCluskey touching when he was shot??? What color were those fishes in Luca's bullet proof vest? HA...and you thought Orange was the big clue.

Apple, I am sure you can pick up on this more readily that the rest, and I am sure you are very interested.

I have to say, I think Fredo appears before the scene where he stumbles over to the table to meet Kay. I think he is in the scene where the family gathers for a picture and Don Vito says "Where's Michael, we're not taking the picture without Michael." Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Hi ex, welcome (first time I've seen your post). You are correct. Scroll up three posts and you'll see my detail of the Fredo sitings prior to the Kay intro. Enjoy.

He is also seen upon Barzini's arrival.

I also noticted Carlo Rizzi pinch Mama Corleone's bum as they watch Johnny Fontane sing

It's also interesting all the detail you pick up when you switch to DVD from an old, worn-out VHS tape. Like when Luca Brasi died? I always thought it was smoker's hack, but it turns out there was a guy behind Luca choking him.
