what do you think was the most random scene of all the movies?

i think the most random scene is when young vito comes to America and the port clerk sees he is from Corleone and gives him that name.. im sure there were hundreds of people from Corleone... why just Vito?

The immigration clerk simply mistook Corleone for his name. Considering that 20 million immigrants came to America between 1880 and 1910, I'm sure such mistakes happened quite a bit.

I knew a guy named Rocco Separato. He got his surname because when his grandfather came to Ellis Island, they asked him if he had a wife, and in his broken English he tried to say they were seperated, and it came out "seperato" which became his last name.

One short scene that I loved for some reason, was when young Vito brought his wife the pear. She was genuinely happy over something so simple. Also, Vito's proud look as he took off his jacket and watched her surprised look. I don't know, kind of romantic and sweet. smile

I liked the scene when Vincent told Grace to get up and get him a glass of water, and she was complainting about it under her breath.

by definition random - proceeding, made, or occurring without definite aim, reason, or pattern. Its tough to say any scene in the films has no "aim, reason, or pattern". How about GF III, donkey boy. I'm not sure why we had to see Altobello be amused.

Happened all the time. My dad told me his father had a polysyllabic last name. But when he went through Immigration at Ellis Island, the clerk only heard the first syllable--and that's been our name ever since.

The scene in III when Michael calls to Vincent to join the family picture. Vincent does that thing with his arms down at his side like he's pushing down on something. Well, you have to see it to appraciate it.

A good scene, and a homage to Michael insisting Kay be in the pictue at Connie's wedding.

Actually, I think that the scene in Ellis Island serves a definite purpose. It was there to portray how the immigrants were treated when they arrived here, and that typically American impatience with anything foreign. The same can be said for Geary's purposeful mispronunciation of the Corleone name during the check presentation. It may even have served as FFC's dig at non-Italians for their treatment of Italians. As a second-generation American, I'm sure his grandparents had shared stories.

All good points SB. I love the scene as the ship passes the Statue of Liberty and you see the faces of all the people.

My grandparents (and father) came to American (a little after that time I think), but I always get a chill at that scene, imagining how they must have felt as the gaze at Lady Liberty not to mention the fear of being in a total strange land and making a new life. That scene is one of my favorites. smile With the beautiful "Immigrant" playing in the background it's very powerful.

Now, wait a minute SB. In that scene there is someone to speak Italian and there are medical check-ups. That's not so bad. Remember that the immigration official who says Corleone is a woker like any other who may have been there for hours and was tired and weary.

Sure, that's possible, although doubtful. But I'm not just talking about Ellis Island. I said that the scene was there to portray the way that immigrants were treated when they arrived here. There were plenty of times that my grandmother was called "dumb guinea" when she got here.

I think this scene is made for giving us a chill. I don't believe the new immigrants in the beginning of the 20th century new about the pathos and meaning connected to the statue of liberty.
They just saw a giant, impressing statue. How can a boy from a Sicilian village know about its importance? He probably hasn't even seen a photo of it.

Of course they did. It was the symbol of their new life. They all new what it was and what it meant. They all had friends or relatives who had come to America. They knew exactly what it meant.

Remember the flashback scene in GF2, when young Santino gives the miniature Statue of Liberty to his grandmother? She knew exactly what it was.
