Former home of gangster up for sale

CHICAGO - A home in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood is on the market at a price that supposedly reflects it was once owned by the family of gangster Al Capone.

The house on South Prairie Avenue is for sale for $450,000, considerably more than similar homes in the working-class neighborhood.

Records show the Capones bought the home for $5,500 in 1923 after moving from New York. It features ornate tile work, brick exterior and an underground cellar.

Capone famously barricaded himself inside in December 1927 while being sought by police. The house has had two owners since Capone's mother died in 1952.

Aw jeez, I only have a couple hundred thousand laying around. Not nearly enough.

A serious problem in buying that house is that people will be ringing your doorbell night and day, asking if it's really the Capone house and asking for tours. It could seriously affect the resale price you'd get.

That's a rather old house. It's got to have major structural and interior problems. You'll be in debt just renovating it.

I can't imagine with the heating bill would be either.
