Freddo told Michael he did not know there would be an attempt of killing him, that he wanted to help out in that deal with Hyman Roth. In the GF RETURNS(I know it doesn`t count!)Winegardner tells the same.

You have to vote if Freddo just wanted to help without realizing he was betraying Michael or he really hated Michael because he was the Don over him and sincerily wanted him killed.
