...for a few months maybe? Now that we know who won the election, let's stop posting about it for a while to take a little break.

Let's have more lighthearted threads. Threads that can bring us all back together.

Let's talk about how proud we are of our kids, or the kids we hope to have. Let's talk about kittens and puppies, because we can! (Yes we can!). Let's tell inspirational stories! Stories of strangers who help those when times are bad... of helping the homeless or those who are sad (Yes we can!) Let's talk about the things we love... gardening, sports or art, or foods that come in a can (Vote no on spam!). Together we can make each other happy, with support, and fun, and blueberry jam (Blueberry Jam?!)

BUT FOR F***'s SAKE! NO MORE POLITICS!! I'M EXHAUSTED!

I'm begging you! Please!

I agree. I'm thrilled for Obama and for our nation, but I need a break.

Maybe some time next year we can start an "Obama Report Card" type thread, but until he actually takes office, I don't have the energy anymore. I'm pooped.

I am glad it's over and we have a winner but..

Actually I disagree. I'm still on a high. After all, one doesn't have to participate in any thread if they choose not to. wink

Four years ago right here on the BB, it was Bush Bush Bush!!! It's OUR turn now. wink Besides, everything runs its course. I just don't think this has yet.

Frankly, I'm glad. Now I get to piss and moan all the time and whenever something goes wrong, I can use the old tagline of "he's not my president" as well as not addressing him as "President Obama" but rather, "Mr. Obama" or "Obama." It should be fun.

Yes you can!! However, I'd hold off on some of those taglines. I figure it'll take at least 4 years for President Obama to dig us out of the hellhole Bush put us in. wink

More like it's not even his first year in office and people are already gearing up for re-election.

Then again, if we are comparing him to Kennedy (which I personally think is bullshit, but for the sake of argument)...

In as much as I already know how much you hate President Bush and his term in office.

To be fair, Bush didn't do all this by himself. Both men who ran last night were part of that system. I always felt it was so unfair to paint McCain alone with that paint brush.

I hope that Obama is a man of his word and will work to revamp how things work. After all he should know who the rotten apples are in the barrel.

Isn't it funny how no one wants to work together when one man was in office, both sides doing their best to make the other side look bad. The winner always calls for everyone to forgive and forget and now let us get something done. My question is, why couldn't this have been done so many administrations ago?

You know who really is hurt by Obama's win?
Hillary Clinton. She is now frozen out of the office, now that her party is in power. How many of you think that she really would have like to see a McCain win so she could have another shot in four years?

Karl cool

The only prediction that's a sure thing is the pendulum keeps swinging. There really was nothing McCain could have done to win. He got the nomination at the wrong time and the pendulum, with the weight of Bush and Cheney, was swinging away from him.

I think you're right... Hillary's career would have been better off if McCain won last night. If she chooses to run against Obama in 2012 it'll only prove that the two of them (Obama and Clinton) didn't mend all the fences. If Obama does well in his term, and Clinton challenges him, she'll lose badly and that will almost certainly end her political career.

Hillary might be Senator for life, which ain't too shabby, but she's gone as far as she can go in politics.

I'm waiting to see if he and the Senate and Congress will live up to his campaign promise that my taxes won't be raised. And I hope he won't follow through with his promise of raising gun and ammo taxes 500%.

It's common knowledge around here that I DIDN'T vote for the man but, I will give him a chance. I reserve the right to say "I told you so" lol

I think it says a lot that in spite of "some" saying Obama "needed" Clinton as a running mate (or even otherwise), and turns out he didn't.

Hillary could run in 4 or 8 years but you know what will happen??? Sara Palin will be the Rep. nominee. Interesting hu? Hillary vs Sarah....talk about cat fight. lol At least they couldn't accuse each other of being sexist. lol

Yes, I wonder if that is good or bad for New Yorkers. After all she has been gone for some time now, running for the whitehouse.

Yes, I remember now. That famous speach she gave to New Yorkers about not running, but staying here, working to make New York the great state it was even better. So, I guess New Yorkers are screwed once more, she is home. lol

Hi TIS,

Are you enjoying your day off? I wouldn't mind seeing Sarah run for the US Senate/Congress for the state of Alaska.

The only way she would run in 2012 would be if this administration s a total train wreck, and even so the only recent precedent for a challenge to a sitting president within his party was Kennedy v. Carter in 1980, and that didn't turn out too well for Ted.

With Ted probably on his last legs Hillary does have a chance to become a major force in the Senate. With A Dem majority she can probably be the chair of any committee she wants and as she gets more and more seniority she can be a huge asset to New York, and be quite powerful in forming and moving legislation. Of course if Obama really wants to be Machiavellian he coud always tap her for the supreme court!

Hi there Mig! Yes, I certainly am enjoying my day off. :)Thanks! A day of celebration for sure.

I hear that SNL (and other comedians) don't find too much material with Barack Obama, but what about Biden. I imagine they can always do a "foot in the mouth" routine, just as Chevy Chase did with Ford tripping all the time. LOL I remember that. That was hiarious lol Ford would never live that down.

NO MORE POLITICS?????

Ok, lets see. If Obama does reasonably well he should get re nominated and depending on what happens to the GOP (see below)
re-elected. What may be interesting will be to see if he keeps Biden on the ticket or opts for someone younger who will try to succeed him. I say this because Biden will probably be too old to run for president in 2016 as will Hillary Clinton, so it would be logical fr him to select some up and coming Governor or sEnator to be Veep for four years, still be a relatively fresh face, and who could claim to have the necessary ewxperience.

As for the GOP it is going to be dicey. That party could have a serious break up with the hard right going one way and the more moderates going another. ight now the GOP does not have one single member of Congress from the Northeast. Not one.
It has become a southern and flyover states party. It has also begun to lose the midwest, and the next big state to switch is going to be Texas where the demographics are changing fast. Sarah Palin may have a future if she can find a way into the Senate, or just stay visible in 2012, but I think if she runs it will be as a sacrificial lamb to the incumbent. On the other hand if Obama looks weak, there is an obvious GOP choice. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. No joke.

I know we're getting way ahead of ourselves, but I'd be very surprised if, barring a major event like a health problem or criminal indictment, Obama ran for reelection with someone other than Biden. They won together once, and upsetting the apple cart can open up a can of worms. I doubt that Obama would compromise his ticket in 2012 just for a possible effect it would have on some other candidate's prospects in 2016.

As I indicated in another thread, look for Obama to face off against Governor Pawlenty in 4 years.

The New Hampshire Primary is only 3 years and 2 months away. grin

I predict that moderate Republicans will be absorbed into the "new" Democratic Party that President-Elect Obama will get the credit for unifying. clap

I predict that the hard right will continue to marry within their own families. whistle
