I always wanted to know what became of Harvey Keitel's character (Charlie) after MEAN STREETS. Not that I'd ever want to see a sequel, especially now, 35 years after the original. Still, I always found something about that character worth saving, something redeemable. Yes, that'd be fascinating. SPOILER:I inferred from the ending montage that his uncle approved (or didn't disapprove) of Michael's hit attempt. If so, Charlie's career as a budding gangster would have been over. A guess: he left NYC and entered the priesthood.

I'd actually like to see what Popeye Doyle's up to, now that Hackman's much older; would the character be tamer, too? He retired from the police, moved up to Poughkeepsie and opened up a toe-jam removing service.

And I hate it when sequels have difference actos playing the part, or totally different characters. To me, that's not a sequel. Just a different movie with the same theme. I agree. There should be some real continuity between the first and second movies for a true sequel.

Yes, I agree; but contrary to a lot of people on here, I actually think The Godfather Part III is extremely underrated. GF III would be ok if: 1. Connie didn't have a Godfather come out of no where. If they were so close, why wasn't he at her wedding? 2. One of Sonny's sons we know of was in it, except for a son who never existed. 3. Popes weren't dropping like flies. 4. Mary didn't realize she got shot in the chest until she saw blood on her dress. Hello!!!! Did she not feel at least a little sting?

Yes, I agree; but contrary to a lot of people on here, I actually think The Godfather Part III is extremely underrated. Has anybody seen The Two Jakes, the follow-up to Chinatown? I read a Time Out review for it last week, and it sounded awfully good. Oddly enough, they both came out about the same time. I saw Part III shortly after it was released but waited to hear about the "Chinatown" sequel before going to see it. I don't remember hearing much good about it (and never saw it).

4. Mary didn't realize she got shot in the chest until she saw blood on her dress. Hello!!!! Did she not feel at least a little sting? Picky, picky. The truth of the matter is, Mary DID feel a little prick. It just proved that Vincent wasn't half the man his father, Sonny, was.

Hackman has disappointed me lately. He's such a good actor and hasn't worked much recently (or at least hasn't picked good roles). The only thing I think he did that was worthwhile in the last dozen years, or so, was playing the lawyer in "Runaway Jury". Hackman is amazing in The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). I think it's a very good and interesting role at the least. One of the best comedic performances I've seen in the past twenty five years or so. Right up there with his absolute best-- Night Moves, The Conversation, Scarecrow (among many). His performance in Heist (2001) is nothing short of worthwhile and solid.

No problem, SC. (Were you replying to me?) Yes. I'll look for the movie when it's on tv.

A little off topic, but one movie I really like and wasn't real popular is Extreme Measures With Hugh Grant and Gene Hackman. A change for Grant(whom I really like) in a drama and Hackman is wonderful as the "bad guy". Maybe I'm the only one, but I enjoyed this movie. http://www.celebritywonder.com/movie/1996_Extreme_Measures.htmlTIS

Speaking of sequels, Dark Knight with Heath Ledger is getting a lot of positive signs thus far. I was under the impression that it was a sequel to Batman??? Am I right or is his character a "joker type" character. Anyway, this morning they are saying how great Heath's performance is and that there is oscar buzz for it. They commented that this is a very "dark" film and from what I have seen in the brief previews, it looks like it. They also say although the movie doesn't open for weeks yet, tickets are selling out. I think someone here posted about it, but what exactly is the storyline if you know. I am not really a Batman fan, but admit these previews are intriguing. TIS I did find out that it IS a Batman flick. However, from these scenes it sure doesn't seem too "cartoonish". http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/thedarkknight.html?showVideo=1
