Was any1 else dissapointed in the way genco was portrayed in part duece? To me he was not the "wartime consilgiere" he was supposed to be. i think part duece makes him look very weak and timid and well rather dumb--far, far inferior to vito.

I'm going to assume that you are talking about his appearance and character in GFII as there was never a war shown where we would see him in action.

But don't let appearances fool you. In staying within the confines of the movie, look at someone like Hyman Roth. A timid little man, a soft spoken and quiet man, a publically humble man. Somebody's sweet grandfather. A very powerful and unmerciful killer.

Till the fanucci murder, I had no problem with Genco's character. But once Vito starts being respected as a dangerous man in the town, Genco's character just did not transform at all. I think the Roberto comedy scene should have been totally deleted from the movie. Had Roberto been depicted as a tough guy, it would have served two purposes: (1) Show how Vito gained respect consistently because of his abilities (murder of Fanucci not being just a fluke). (2) growth of Genco's character - instead of just opening doors for Roberto, he could have been shown giving some good advice (like a consigliere in making)to Vito.

I just don't like the way they made Genco look like a coward when the Black Hand had his girlfriend held with a knife......I mean Vito was even questioning why he was backing off. It would have been nice to see a little bit of Genco's bad ass side......even a little glimpse to tie into his reputation. He never once told Vito that he hated the Black Hand, and just sat there and took it.

Genco's father was also timid. Remember he had to let Vito go so that Fanucci's nephew could work at the store. I presume these people just wanted to be left alone, but that eventually Genco got himself into a position of trust with the Don.

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

"I stood in the courtroom like a fool."

"I am Constanza: Lord of the idiots."

Part II? So long ago...
Can anyone refresh my memory? How did Vito and Genco got to know each other? Did they just met in the grocery shop of father Abbandando, or did it go back to the very old days when they were kids in Corleone?

About the topic, he was indeed not portraited as a wartime consigliere, but imagine a GF IV with flashbacks spanning 1927 - 1945, about Vito being shot by the Irish mob, and the trouble with Maranzano. That would make some characters grow, not only Genco, but others like Luca Brasi too.
