Hey guys-

I wanted to ask for your help, I am planning on entering the moveon.org ad campaign contest called Obama in 30 sec. It should be an ad written, produced, filmed, edited, and must be original and inspired by the Obama campaign message ( of hope, change, progress, etc). I have two weeks, or a little less even to get this thing done. I had an idea, but I scrapped it last minute. I may go with the idea IF I continue having this miserable writer's block.
What I'm asking is not full blown ideas, I need to write this myself. But little tidbits, anything, any off the wall idea or premise for a 30 sec ad. I can fill in the rest. But whatever you all can think of, I would be thankful. If you see my ad on tv and I win, I will totally credit you wherever there is a chance to do so. =) thanks in advance.

If it's an Obama message based on hope change, and progress, it should be written, produced, filmed, and edited so that it results in a blank screen.

HAHAHAHAHAH oh my God, HILARIOUS.
=/

ok, well I guess I should've said, if you don't support his campaign in any way shape or form, don't bother wasting your time or mine. I wrongly assummed it would be understood. But what do I know.. Thanks.

Clouds of Mystery pouring Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.

Okay, you touched the strings of my heart. Here goes.

A split screen. On the left side, an accelerating count of Iraq War expenditures approptiately labeled. On the right side, short clips one right after the other of the dilapidated condition of VA hospitals, floods, hurricanes, people being evicted from their houses, rundown neighborhoods, factory closings (you get the pictiure?). Then go to black. Then the left side again with an accelerating count of expenditures. But this time on the right side, short clips one right after the other of people being helped, etc. Fade to black. "Obama" appears near the top of the screen. Then just below it: Hope Change, Progress.

Judging by the response (or lack there-of) received here, I'm sure some of us would be much more content to see pacino princess in 30 seconds than we would Obama. But maybe I'm the only one. I dunno.

But seriously, I just hate political ads all together and can't remember seeing one that wasn't cheesy...

Ha ha!! I know DT. Both McCain & Clinton released a 3:00 a.m. ad and they both are so much alike. Hopefully they'll go another route. It doesn't take long for these ads to get old I guess.

Oh, I PP. How are you? Nice to see you back. I'm turning on my brain to try to help you think of a good idea. I'll see if I come up with something. Good luck to you. ;\)

"I am <Insert your favorite politician's name> and I approve this message" is the most hilarious thing about these TV ads.

This may very well suck, but I'll throw it at you and if it's not good, perhaps it'll spark a good idea. So FWIW.

First, HOPE - Show a cheering crowd at an Obama event with the "Yes We Can" sign and scenes of the excitement surrounding these events without actually showing Obama.

Second, CHANGE - Show a clip or picture of the Clintons and indicate it's "old school" or too much of the same ol' same ol' (of course add whatever else you can think of; or even throw a pic of McCain in the mix)

Third - PROGRESS - An appropriate shot/clip of Obama and say, "Now This Is Progress."

If you could find a picture of McCain WITH the Clintons for the 2nd part, that would be even better.

That's right, but there are practical reasons for that silly disclaimer. First, for reasons that escape me, the ads containing that language are discounted in price by the networks or stations that air them. It reduces the broadcaster's potential liability for defamation or other civil causes of action, but there are other reasons too.

I have been involved with campaigns of friends, who ran for local offices, and assisted in writing radio ads. The ads were to be followed by the phrase "Paid for by the Committee to Elect John Doe." The ad was substantially less expensive when the phrase was recorded by the candidate himself, as opposed to the voice over guy.

I thought about the defamation possibility, but I wouldn't have guessed the cost angle in eternity \:\)

There are also federal elections commission rules that require those disclaimers.
