Man I have the sharpest eyes!!

In Godfather I of the DVD collection, you have the scene of Vito's funeral. Right after Tessio comes up to Michael and says "Michael, can I talk to you for a minute? " Michael stands up. Right when the screen turns mostly black from Mike's suit as he stands up PAUSE the film. You'll see someone's face in his suit! It's probably Michael's mother and most likely the overlapping of an alternative camera position but it shouldnt be there ofcourse. Go check it out, its actually kinda spooky! I'm hoping you all will see the same. If you have the same copy as I do there's no doubt you'll see it if you follow the instructions I gave to get there.

Yes, I know. Someone on another forum where I've also made a fool of myself told me the same thing. But then again...im happy that no one told me and i found out myself

You didn't make a fool out of yourself As new memembers come on the board, they might ask a question that has been discussed before, and many times they bring up something that hasn't been discussed before.

I have already seen the photo by the way but im curious about the reason this was projected this way. Just a flaw I'm sure but still...I'm curious

Good question, I'm sure someone will know the right answer for your question, but I think it was done on purpose.

well that wouldnt make sense. Why put something so abstract/fictional in a film that has more to do with earthly and non fictional topics?

CCDevlin - It's just to add atmosphere it doesn't mean the film is completely fiction

I know this DMC. It just wouldtn make sense to add atmosphere to a movie like this using that particular effect. Coppola himself said he didnt know what it was and sais it could be a lens reflection.

Now your description sent me back for a frame-by-frame creep through the sequence, and there she is, ghostly red against black, fading in and out. Is this a real ghost image, or only an optical illusion, like those Elvises people see on screen doors?

I asked director Francis Ford Coppola, who replies: "Gee, I know nothing about this. Will look, I guess. The funeral scene was shot really quickly, and I was disgruntled that they removed one day from its schedule. So nothing elaborate was done: we shot it as fast as we could."
