Why was Pauly shot in the head out in the marsh when Clemenza was taking a pee break? I never understood that- I knew he was always "sick" throughout the first half of the GF1- was he faking sickness and plotting against the family during those times? Sonny did call him a "strutz" in that one scene when they're sitting around, and was ticked at him. That's the only thing I can think of.

Exactly right howie. Paulie is the one who betrayed the Corleones and set up Vito to be shot and hopefully killed.

There is even a seperate DVD disc in the set that includes deleted scenes from the movie. One of those scenes goes into a bit more detail as to how the Corleones firgured out that it was Paulie who set up the old man.
