He was battling bladder cancer, for about a year. And this Tuesday, after he started to have trouble breathing and could no longer speak to us, he died. My uncle (who is more of a grand uncle, my grandfather's brother) never married, or had any children, but as my mother and her 5 brothers and sisters and all of our cousins and myself grew up with him around, WE WERE and ARE his children. Luckily we were all there, and this man, had the most beautiful ceremony, burial, and grave site I've ever witnessed. it was the first time we'd experienced such a close loss, he was younger than my grandfather, his little brother and best friend. It's broken all of our hearts, and it's because he was such a good, decent, family-loving human being, that we miss him so badly. I miss him every moment. I can't get the picture out of my head, how much he was suffering, how hard it was for him to breath, and his mouth was so dry, we could only feed him water with a spoon. It is a testament to all of us, that our lives on this earth are temporary, and then we go on our journey to God. But he gives us so much strength, doesn't he? The fact that I could read the verses of the Quran over him in that hospital and I could look at him and bear it, that's a true sign that God gives us strength in times like this. Just thought I'd share, my heart is bursting.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I had an aunt (actually my father's aunt) who was married, never had children and lived by us as I grew up. She was like another grandmother. I'd see her every day. When she passed it was very very difficult. She thought of us as her grandkids and we were closer than most aunt/uncles neice relationship. I have very vivid and fond memories of her. Thank God those cannot be taken from us.
