It's not Tom Hagen, it's B.G. Harrison...a character created because of the fact that Duvall (the actor for Tom) wanted more money but didn't get it. So he decided to quit..

BG isn't a consiglieri...i think he's more a financial advisor...and thats it.

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

Tom Hagan is supposedly dead by the time we see GF3 it doesnt go into detail how he died but the transcript from the scene in the vatican between Michael and Harrison talking about Toms son Andrew goes like this

MICHAEL (to Harrison)

His father was a great lawyer.

HARRISON

I know…

MICHAEL

Didn’t live to see him ordained. I did. You ever seen one of those?

So, thats all we get ohwell

No, John Wayne as Ghengis Khan was the worst casting decision of all time.

I would think that Tom drew the line at Michael's murder of Fredo. A fill in the blanks type of movie or novel would probably note his departure from the Family at that juncture.

Olivant you are correct, and the greatest line in the movie is when Wayne says to Rita Hayworth, (or is it Susan Hayword?) "You look beautiful in your wrath."

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

"I stood in the courtroom like a fool."

"I am Constanza: Lord of the idiots."

lol lol
My favorite line in that movie was when The Duke leered down at Hayward and said, in his best Western drawl: "By day, the pelts of my sheep shall keep thee warm...and by night, the heat of my body shall protect thee from the desert winds." lol lol
