I would like to hear everybodys opinion on this:

What features of Al Pacino make him most suitable for the role of Michael Corleone?

The answers you give may well have been on FFC's list when he was casting him and others!

One of Al's strong points in portraying Mike, is his broad acting skills. He went from being a "nice college kid" to a ruthless head of a crime family. cool

I think that's easy! His intensity! Escpecially his eyes. I can't think of any actor who can "act" without saying a word, and merely express himself thru his "look" better than Pacino. wink (i.e. just before he shoots Sollozo/McCluskey) He captured Michael's sweetness as well as the "Don" Michael's "coldness". It's gotta be his intensity!! smile

I agree 100 o/o with TIS. It's his eyes. Ex. The scene when Kay is telling him about the abortion, the look in his eyes. If looks could kill she would have been 6ft. under.

Like TIS said, his non-verbal acting is just amazing. Just a close-up of him of 10 seconds says more than a hundred words! eek

WAY TO GO, TIS [Linked Image]!!!

'Intensity' is EXACTLY the word I was thinking for Pacino (and exactly what FFC saw in 'Panic In Needle Park)...only I didn't post an answer.

For the role of Michael Corleone, a character who literally evolves from one extreme of human behavior to another, it's what was necessary in whatever actor was cast in the part.

Amazing to think that Al was close to being fired until that Sollozzo killing scene was shot. I guess they had filmed all the minor stuff first which hadn't given Pacino the chance sink his teeth into the part!

No doubt about it, the intensity is #1. I especially like the scene with Senator Geary in his tahoe study. You just had to look at his eyes to know what was going on... wink

Al Pacino's facial expression and mannerisms is what won him the role of Michael Corleone. A great actor.

The only person suitable for the role of Michael Corleone is Al Pacino. Big Al is the best!!!
