I emailed J Geoff of the Godfather Trilogy website, and he told me hopefully the "skips" on the DVD collection are just "layer changes"? what are these? and can anyone tell me exactly where they are on the 3 movies.

When I first watched mine on DVD it skipped A LOT! The only one I remember was Sen Geary's speech on the begining of Pt2. This made me incridiblly pissed (it was a new dvd and player), and after punching my trash can, I "accidentally" slammed the dvd remote on the ground.I took back the DVD player and got a better brand, and it hasnt done it sence. (knock on wood)

Most DVDs nowadays are dual-layered. It allows twice the data storage compared to a single-layer DVD. When the DVD player switches between layers, it sometimes pauses for a slight period of time. I have no idea where they on are the discs. I don't pay attention to slight imperfections such as these.

I dunno, my PS2 always played my DVD's fine, and I recently upgraded to a Koss DVD Home Theatre system, which does the layer changes better than the PS2, but has a problem with GF II disc two at the chapter transfer when Connie tells Anthony his father wants him and Fredo goes alone, it skips the Fredo hit and goes right to Michael sitting alone in the closing scene with credits...weird.

I haven't had any layer changes on the PS2 or my mum's dvd player, but when I watched at my little brother and sister's house on Part 2 it skipped a lot. Of course I freaked and pulled it out-but no scratches. I wonder if it only does it on certain DVD players confused ?

My Koss is a higher-end system, and really only has that one problem with the GF II, disc 2. But it's still annoying. grin

That is the first sign of your ps2 lazer getting lazy. Before that though it should have quit playing blue bottomed disks. I am in the boat you are in now only using my ps2 for dvd's and dvd not blue bottomed disked games. ohwell

the only one i've ever noticed is a slight pause which is extremely easy to miss on part I. It happens right when Fredo walks into the Don's room after Dinner and they are alone. Right as the camera is on Brando and it is about to fade into the first of the sicily scenes there is a pause. This happened all the time when I used to watch DVDs on my PS2, before I had gotten my DVD player. Thankfully my DVD player is, I guess you could say "layer proof". Now those unsightly skips on Scarface and my other films are completely out of there.

"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

It's not the laser actually, it's a mechanical problem. One of the counterweights that has to do with reading the blue disks is fucked up, apparently this is actually a pretty standard problem according to my local GameStop and many websites. There are two things you can do:

1.) Send it back to Sony for a free fix (though of course you'll have to pay for insured shipping as well as have to wait a long time to get it back.

2.) Use my "tape" trick. Some people claim if you put pieces of scotch tape on the disc, it will minutely affect the weight of the disc enough to make the player read it, but it doesn't work. What I did is take two pieces of scotch tape and place them over the center hole of my blue discs, leaving about a 1/4 inch gap between them. When the little doohicky that spins the disk drops down, it hits the tape, and the force of friction causes it to spin correctly.

I'd probably send it off if I didn't only have two "blue disk" games. It's a quick enough solution for me.

Oh yeah, my DVD player hits that part of the DVD fine now. I just think they get confused every once in awhile. For instance: I just bought Coming to America on DVD recently cause my VHS-taped-off-the-TV is shot, so I spent $9.99. Halfway through, the player got funky and claimed it couldn't read the disk. I eject it, no scratches, but I clean it anyways. Badabing, no problem. They are just not as reliable as VHS's are/were, and we have to (I guess) sacrifice effieciency and effectiveness for the supreme quality and the overall theatre-esque experience that is Digital Video Discs.
