I'm currently engaged in this topic on another forum, and I know there's a fair few Beatles fans here. It's been debated that both are songwriters of considerable talent and differing styles. Paul's written some classics - Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday, Back in the USSR... hell, even some of his solo stuff is excellent, particularly Band On The Run. But John (IMHO) brought heart and soul to a Beatles song.

If I were to choose who would be the best songwriter of the two, it would be really difficult because they're both responsible for classics. But which one of them turned me on with their songs? I'd have to say John.

I think Paul had the better *pure* voice, but John brought songwriting mastery that has been absent in Paul's solo work.

I don't know. I can't say one is better than the other, but they were the perfect tandem. ;\)

Paul has a nice voice, but John's lyrics are better, and I think John really expended himself into the music... More so than Paul.

"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

Both had very differant writing styles,Lennon would have the lyrics and them put the music to it and Paul had the music, and fill it with music, that how it was from 66 onwards. Its impossible to choose one out right, well it is for me anyway

Im more of a John man myself but not just for his musical genius but for him as a human.

I agree.

Besides, look at what both guys did after 1970. John wrote "Imagine".

Paul created Wings.

No contest.

When you read the lyrics to "Imagine" they're a bit bland, really.

But he sings it well enough.

He sings it well enough, in spite of the fact that his utopian-lyrics are hypocritical, considering his lofty joint up in New York.

Still, good enough song to excuse that little fact.
