I definitely think the third godfather was the worst one. The first two were the best because the corleone family seemed more italian. And in the third one they just lost that.Francis Ford Coppola should forget about a fourth Godfather.

I think it was just misunderstood, not as good, but still good none of the less. The only real piece of shit in the script was Tom Hagen taken out, and the incest with Vinnie and Mary.

least good one, yes. But the main problem, Good Guy, as you will most definitely find out once you're on this board long enough, is that it's a little out of range. The first two make such a strong combination, like a pact, a coalition: one and two together, now THAT'S a brilliant saga with a great structure and a tragic end.

In hindsight we feel they should have left it with that. Of course, probably no one minded a new release in the late eightties (I wouldn't know, I was 6) but now we think, 'why did no one stop them back then?'. In GF III, Michael regrets his past and is seeking for some sort of redemption. While he does not succeed entirely and is still punished in the end (you got to give Puzo/Coppola credit for the ending sequence) we feel as if Michael's search for forgiveness is succeeding. He is not that hard, cruel man anymore, what made the finale of GFII so goddamn wonderfull!

GF III, not a bad movie, not if it was outside of the Corleone universe. As an ending to the Michael Corleone story, it weakens the total Godfather saga, unfortunately.


But there are great, many great things to be said about the third movie none the less! Great performances all around (you will find some sort of hatred against Sofia "Mary" Coppola here though), a nice story, true to the originals, Al Pacino's comeback, Andy Garcia's breakthrough, a wonderfull get together of the crew... it has 7 oscar nominations!!

as maybe all of you, I think GF3 is the worst one, but I still like it. It's unfair to compare it with the first two parts. Them both are perfect!
Even so, I really like GF3, specially when I watched it the first time, I loved it. But I also agree that it could have been much better.
these are the main flaws IMO:
- if you watch it without to know the story from the previous movies, you won't know what's going on (thay might not be a flaw to many of you, I know)
- the first two parts have an incredible thing related: since the very beginning, you get to know exactly who is who. In GF3, I took a long time to know the names of all the guys in the story, who they are, and what they are killer for.
- GF1 and 2 are absolutely realistic. GF3 is not. the scene when Vincent kills the 2 punks in the beginning is great, but not very real. and specially, in the final sequence, when that man pretends to be dead and then kills one of the twins, it's very non-GF.
- the (IMO) absolutely unnecessary love affair between Vincent and Mary
- Diane Keaton (IMO again) poor acting.

I like III fine.

Uhm Tony- I just have a little rebuttal to some of your statements about GF III.
In terms of it being unrealistic, it was actually based losely on a true story (the Vatican)and really, this argument has no merit after the deaths of everyone in Part I, and Michael not being arrested. American wasn't THAT corrupt!
Diane Keaton's acting was probably her finest since Annie Hall, IMO. I thought she did better than good, she did fantastic.

With that out of the way, i must say that I love this movie sooo much. It is definitely my favorite out of the trilogy and of all time. I know i'm in the vast minority but the movie is just so touching and introspective, and the ending, the best of any movie, is breathtaking. I watched it with my father for the first time the other day, and he wept he was so moved. My support wavered for a bit after reading some of the thing said on the board (for example i found myself examining Sofia's performance) but than i just though f*ck it, who cares. I like it, and thats all that matters

Well, I agree with you that GF3 is very touching, that's the best thing about this movie. in the end, after Mary get shooted, there's a short flashback of Michael dancing with Appolonia, Kay and Mary that almost makes me cry!

The GF3 is the most boring movie I have ever seen!

You can't be serious! There are tons of movies that are boring. GFIII, even if you don't like it, can't be the most boring movie you've seen unless you've seen very very few movies.

I didnt really mind GF3, I agree it wasnt as good as the first 2 but it was still pretty good in my opinion.

The ending to this movie is the only movie that ever made me cry.

if G3 was a stand alone movie and wasnt tagged on as the 3rd godfather we would all have a different opinion the only reason some of us dislike it is becuase it didnt meet up to the 2 movies before it but if they called it (my personal title for g3) The Sins Of A Man Starring Al Pacino i garantee threads like this wouldnt exist

This topic is always getting back in some time. Most times by newer people (I was one of them too, so I don't blame anybody).

And always I say: GF 3 is my personal favorite. It's the best of the whole trilogy. And if you want to know why? Search the board, I've posted it a 20 times around here.

Well they pretty much imply it in one of the early scenes between Michael, BJ and Andrew.

I havent seen GF 3 yet, but i will be as im waiting to get the DVD collection from my family. There seems to be a vast majority of people saying that the movie stinks, i hope that its not as bad as some of u guys have said it to be.

Everybody has his own opinion (pfff, i've said that a lot of times in treats). You like it or not that's how it is.
