It is a reference to the West African nation of Guinea, and the slur connotes that Italians, particularly the darker skinned southern Italians, are of African descent.

The use of the word Guinea came from the term Guinea Negro which came from the belief that Italians were part African because of their darker skin.

McDougald, McDwyer, McFly, etc....so many Irish last names begin with the letters Mc, that the term mick was adopted in referring to the Irish.

WOP - with out papers, WOP for short
So many Italians came over without their paperwork in order, that this became slang for Italians at Ellis Island.

"Without papers". I'm not so sure. That may be urban legend. There must have been many other ethnic groups whose members were without papers.

According to Wikipedia, the origin of the term "spick" is unknown, but thought to be derived from "No spik de English."

Dago has a more roundabout history. The British called spanish people "Diegos" and somehow it transmuted to mean other mediterranean peoples. By the time it got here it was transformed to "dago" and was used as a slur against Italians.

Goombah is a bastardization of the Sicilian work "cumbari" which means friend, or companion. In Sicilian slang many words that begin with the letter "c" are pronounced as if they begin with the letter "g." Also in sicilian slang the last vowel is also dropped (think of pasta and beans, which in Italian is "pasta e fagioli," but in Sicilian is pronounced "pastafazool," or prosciutto, which in Sicilian is called "prozhoot." In the end, cumbari mutated to gumba which is how that word came about.

Manic,

You obviously have internet access, so why don't you just do a search to find out the answer to these questions that you keep posting?

Now Manic, there's absolutely no need for you to use profanity. I was only wondering why you didn't search for these answers yourself, that's all. So just relax and chill out.

How come there is no disparaging word for Belgians?
