Hey people just wondering what your opinions are on the saddest or most tragic ending in a mob/crime film
i reckon the ending in Blow when he thinks his daughter is actually visiting him and he's talking to no one..and you read at the end that his daughter is yet to visit him...also the ending to Carlito's way is pretty sad when Benny Blanco from the bronx shoots Carlito seconds after surving the gun fight against the mob..also seconds before he hops on the train with Gail
So say goodnight to the bad guy..eh cause its the last time your ever gonna see a bad guy like this again let me tell you/O.K!! im reloaded!!You motherfuckers think your big time!!!Your gonna die big time!!!O.K Here come the pain!!!

Godfather III, in my opinion. Even if you didn't like the movie, the ending has to pull at your heartstrings. Michael's silent scream is bone chilling. yeah i had that in mind too..

I always found The Godfather II sad. They way Michael just sits there knowing he's lost so much. I'm not so sure that at that point Michael is contemplating any loss. The GFIII ending is so powerful that I have a hard time watching it. The silent scream puts all of mankind's angst over his foolishness into one superb expression. And Michael's death puts it all in perspective. Wasn't it in Harlem Nights that Sugar Ray played by Richard Pryor says "with all your grandchildren around you, that's how you want to die." Contrats that with Michael's death: alone, forgotten, unloved.

Contrats that with Michael's death: alone, forgotten, unloved. That's a great analogy, Olivant. It makes the conversation in Part II, with Mama Corleone, about whether it was possible to lose one's family, all the more poignant.

I always found The Godfather II sad. They way Michael just sits there knowing he's lost so much. I'm not so sure that at that point Michael is contemplating any loss. Keep in mind that FFC and his writers wrote the ending of GFII believing that this was it. That they would never make another GF movie again. Watch that ending all over again and see how Michael thinks about the past, his younger days with the family and everyone around him. He has this distant and aged look in his eyes, almost as if he's having second thoughts about what he did to achieve his power and success. Contemplating the thought of was it really worth it to lose his family to accomplish power. A silent look saying "what an expensive price I have paid," all the while thinking of his family and how it used to be. Don Cardi
Don Cardi Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

The first one that comes to mind is Godfather III. Definitely. How anyone could sit through this and not be affected by it defies comprehension. Regardless of what one thinks of the film as a whole, that ending is still shattering, even after repeated viewings.
Carlito's Way also was affecting, but my experience was a little different: when I first saw it, I missed the first five minutes and, for that reason, the ending was more of a surprise and packed a bit more of a jolt than if I had seen it from the beginning.
These were the first two films that came to mind.
Francis Ford Coppola likened his films to grand opera, and as Bugs Bunny once said, "What did you expect in an opera, a happy ending?"
Signor V.
"For me, there's only my wife..."
"Sure I cook with wine - sometimes I even add it to the food!"
"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"
"It was a grass harp... And we listened."
"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"
"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

When he thinks back over the years...how very sad...just thinking about him thinking, makes me cry! IMHO--NO-OTHER--STORY CAN EVER TOP FFC GODFATHER 1-2-Or-3 We can all relate to the Godfather in one way or the other!
