The A&E reruns, although edited for television, have reminded me that this incredible show was never better than it was in season one.
Nancy Marchand was an incredible actress. Had she lived can you imagine where the story could have went ?
Would she have testified in some way ?
Could Junior and Tony have kept the peace with her around to instigate things ?
I still enjoy the show but those first two seasons, especially season one, are the best.

No way. She was in "the life" too long.

No way. She loved to play the two of them against each other (and was very good at it).

You bring up a good point about how different the storyline would've been if she had lived. I'm pretty happy about the storyline now, but its an interesting thought (about what it would be if she was still on the show).

she got on my nerves sometimes, but she was a definite asset to the show.

the worst though is the editing job they did after she had died to include her in that last episode. i was never so disappointed in the Sopranos as I was in that trash. it was terribly edited to include her in a few scenes after she had passed away.

While I've enjoyed every Season, I think it fell off the tracks a bit after Nancy died. The show was, imho, better with her than without her.

Chase probably would have scrapped the Jackie Jr. storyline, wasn't his idea for her to be in the case against Tony?

Had she lived, it is interesting to speculate how she would have figured in the finale of the show. A murder suicide maybe?

Could be. I cannot recall exactly what happened, but I believe that in the next to last or the last episode of the second season, she was sent on a plane, or attempted to go on a trip, given tickets by Tony that were obtained through some kind of a scam. Does anyone recall this?

I had always thought that she would get caught by the authorities with those tickets and then would have put Tony in hot water. But Marchand died in real life before the next season started.

I remember the ticket thing, but I think the auhtors just let it fade away instead of addressing it directly with a story line.

Yeah I remember that the original idea was to have her testify against Tony about where he got the stolen airline tickets, but Marchand died before filming began for season three.
