No, I watch it. But it is gratuitous. In the novel, Sonny is shot by a couple of men with pistols. Obviously, FFC gave into the gratuitous display that is all too characteristic of films over the last few decades. When you watch the black and white mob films like Murder, Inc. you never even see a bullet whole let alone blood and guts.

I watch it. I always thought it was some kind of homage to the final scene of Bonnie and Clyde.

I watch it, although it is very sad to see him die. He was one of my favourite characters. Would have liked to see him longer.

Sometimes I'll sit through it ... but it's so hard to watch and usually I'll switch to another channel or make sure I'm out of the room for those few moments.

Ahhh, it's only make believe. Perhaps these pictures will make you all feel better.

But all joking aside, no matter how many times I watch the Godfather, when it gets to the scene where Sonny is entering the tollbooth, a part of me always hopes that he'll back out of the tollbooth and get away, even though I obviously know that he doesn't.

Sonny was a great character.

His death does get to me each time, especially since I think Sonny would be fun to have as a brother.

While his temper ultimately cost him his life, it was an indirect result of the deep love that he had for his sister.

Thanks to the power of TiVo, Sonny doesn't have to die. You can stop those bullets... or double them....

From what Sonny's wife was saying at Connie's wedding, his heart wasn't the only, oh, never mind.

Somehow mentioning putting something in your mouth while discussing penises seems rather kinky.

I ALWAYS watch Sonny's death scene!
He is/was my favourite character in the movie and his demise always leaves a lump in my throat.
But it is such a damned good scene to watch though!

I don't feel sad when watching that scene, but it moves me every time when Vito later says "look how they have massacred my boy"...

No way - never do I skip over Sonny's death scene. It was one of the best moments of the film.

Yes, that's exactly what FFC had in mind for that scene. Brutal as it was (and arguably, gratuitiously brutal), it reinforced an important message of the Trilogy: Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Kinda' like every time I watch Part II, I think maybe Michael is really going to forgive Fredo at the end.

Kinda like when I watch part III and pretend it was all a dream

Part III doesn't bother me as much as it does other people.
Granted it is far from a great movie, but I still find it a good movie if you overlook some of the flaws.

Well, I gotta admit, when it's on AMC, I usually leave it on. It has it's moments.
You're right, it's not a bad movie. That's what bothers me about it most, it could've been great.
I'm not like alot of people that blame FFC, Sofia, etc...
I blame Paramount. They waited 16 years for mediocrity, if they gave FFC another 6 months to tweak it a bit, it could have been great. Once they fell behind schedule, they put way too much pressure on him.

Part III is flawed when compared to the first two films, but that's the danger with any sequel. The first two films set the bar so high that it was nearly impossible to attain such levels in the third installment. Taken on its own, III is a pretty good movie. It has some excellent moments, but also has some weaknesses, which have been outlined on these boards many times. The main difference is that the first two parts had no real weaknesses.

No, I watch Sonny's death.

GFI had the book as its basis; GFII had almost all the originals from GFI and was made just a couple of years later so that the audience was able to relate. Of course, GFIII was made over 15 years later and memories had faded and most of the original cast was long gone. Still, it was a cut above many other movies, especially sequels.
