Yesterday I stayed off line most of the day because I was too busy watching! I began by watching GI with FFC's commentary - how wonderful to have his input - the only thing that surprised me was how down he was on himself as a director, how at one stage he criticised some of the second unit shots as being university film class standard...and how much I feel for him having to deal with the incessant pressure from Paramount...him and Al Pacino....yikes! It amazes me that in this difficult working environment he and Al still managed to produce the best of all Godfather movies..... smile grin

Anyway sorry for the rant & rave (there are more to come!)

Cheers!

I still cannot believe the cost cutting measures that FFC took to make GI but how excellent the end product really was.....if he hadn't of pointed out some of the "cheap" second unit shots I would never have known...would you guys have?

I can imagine that, getting such a present. I once got a football shirt from my favorite team, which costed about $60 at the time, which is quite expensive I think for a sport shirt, and my mother usualy is against these luxurious things, especially when it's a "gift-without-occasion" as it was then. But she just said that one day 'oh just take it' and realy made my day!

and Sveta, it sure beats the Grolsch VHS tapes don't they?

and the Grolsch edition have these 10 minute interviews too, so they are not all that bad;) they are like VHS with DVD-like extra features!

and not everyone has dvd players yet today, so they are a great alternative.

maar die dvd box blijft fantastisch

Wasn´t the Grolsch DVD-box last year? I diden´t even knew The Godfather then so I diden´t got it. Pherdy, I know it´s a bit late, but I like your avatar, I´ve got the same picture as your avatar as my wallpaper in black/white. It´s nice to have you back! I haven´t seen you for a few days.

Where did you get it? It´s probably a lot more beautifull in colour.

Dear GF fans,

I am reading some books about the godfather on this moment. I do not know if there is some kind of topic about it somewhere. Else I can open one.

But on topic: I thought the same as Sveta about how in godsname FFC made the Godfather part one and why Rudy (production of GF) wasn't fired and FFC also. But reading this book gives a total different view on those aspects.

There was an organisation called the League. It contains Italian/American citizans who in first place didn't like the making of the Godfather but later made production, how can I say it, easier for the production staff.

What it all comes down for for me is that what I read in this book (The Godfather Legacy) that without permission of the League, this film never could have been made. When the League saw it was a movie about giving another look to Italians, the approved production and nothing stood in their way. It contains a lot more but this is just to give answer on your question.

Francesco Corleone.

Francesco mentioned The Godfather Legacy book. It's a great read written by Halan Lebo goes into all the behind the scenes stuff. Even into the pranks Duval, Brando and crew got into during the shootings of the scenes. Worth a read.

Hello again,

The production manager of all GF's was Albert S. Rudy and all information is from the book 'The Godfather Legacy' as mentioned before. That is also the book where I learned of the existance of the League. There are more books about the Godfather on which I will give my view when I have read them all!

The Godfather books topic. Opening in a message board near you soon!

Francesco Corleone
