Since we've just ended the GF III thread I thought I'd bring up a different perspective to appreciating the third film.

How would rate GF III with Goodfellas? Both we're released the same year, but showed two different sides to mafia life.

I bring this up because the majority of the GF III is great thread mentnioned that's not in the same class of I and II, but still around a 8 (out of 10).

I'm just curious where you put Goodfellas over the third of a great epic. I prefer Goodfellas.

Good question. It is very hard to compare the two. The Godfather PT3 is a fiction as where Goodfellas is based on true happenings. GF3 is also romanticized where as Goodfellas shows the brutality of being in the mob. Each has its place however. I prefer Godfathers ethics of Goodfellas senseless violence. Guys like Tommy DeVito are a dime a dozen and DON'T last long. The same can be said of the Nicky Santoro character in Casino. If you bring heat you have to go.
