There is only the one book you read. The 3rd movie was not based on a book. It was just a throw togther to make money for the studio.

No, Puzo has been dead for years. That's why GF3 stunk. It did not have his hand in it.

There's supposed to be talk of GF4. I think some Florida writer is writing the script. Nothing set in stone though. So for now it's just a rumor.

Let's keep in mind that Puzo was not only alive when GFIII was made but shares writing credit with FFC. I think he died only about 4-5 years ago.

GFIII stunk because focus was on all the wrong details and yes, like Beth E says...it was basically thrown together.

In answer to your question-How many 'godtather' books are there?, there is only one so far. Another one (not written by Puzo) is supposed to come out in 2004.
BTW its Godfather not Godtather wink tongue

This was on Geoff's website. I really have no clue about what its going to be about.I only hope this Mark Winegardner guy knows what he's doing and doesnt ruin the series.

Florida Author Chosen to Pen 'Godfather' Sequel

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Random House has made author Mark Winegardner an offer he can't refuse.

The publisher said on Friday it picked the Florida-based writer to pen the sequel to "The Godfather," Mario Puzo's 1969 tale of Mafia ties and betrayal that sold 20 million copies and inspired a trilogy of films about the Corleone family.

Winegardner, author of the novels "The Veracruz Blues" and "Crooked River Burning," directs the creative writing program at Florida State University. He lives in Tallahassee, Florida.

November, 2004. There was a write-up about it in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly. It's titled "The Godfather: The Lost Years".
