Zia, I'm so jealous. I haven't been to a live sporting event in AGES, and you got to go to two in one day. Lucky girl.

My boys lost last night. At one point, Jorge Posada was robbed of a run that would have tied the game 2-2. They called him out at the plate, but the instant replay sure as heck looked like he was safe. Darn!! Of course, we were at our friends' house, and the husband is a big Mets fan (he's from Brooklyn). The Mets had a rain delay, too, so we watched a little bit of the Yankees game, and then were flipping back and forth. He was all happy because the Yankees lost. The WORST!!

Sorry, SB. Sounds terrible.

I hate dealing with trash talk or pessimism during a game.

Whoa, Adam Everett just got a homer - though an incredible shortstop, he's definitely not one of our "sluggers"...that was cool to see one of the "little guys" go yard.

I was just planning on bragging about my Willy, who got a stand-up triple in the top of the inning, but he and Preston Wilson nearly had a collision in the OF just now, and neither made the catch.

But Wandy's been spectacular so far - sure makes me regret not being a homer all the time in fantasy...instead, I get screwed over by the freakin' Mets in pitching.

Gina, Feel free to brage about Willy to your heart's content. This is, after all, the Ladies Thread.

My boys were getting their butts kicked, came back to bring the score to 5-4 (thanks in part to my Jeter) and then blew it in the bottome of the 9th. They ended up losing, although I think that they were robbed AGAIN. The ump definitely called a strike a ball, and that was that.

Oh man, this is too much fun. I'm so glad your obsession isn't some guy with a boring name. Although even the most boring name, if you leave it to JG and DM, they can turn it naughty. :p

SB, that sucks. Especially watching with someone who's rooting for them to lose!! I hate when that happens... It's horrible, don't you want to slap them after a while?

Aww SB I feel your pain. Instead of the Tribe it's the Browns. But in honor of your Yanks I found this 'smile'.

It's funny though when you're surrounded by pwoplw rooting for the other team because you get so defensive and aggressive, it's fun!

I knew they could do it, but knowing doesn't take the excitement out of when it happened. So yayyyyy this means Wednesday night isn't the last Laker game, I get to see a little more of them (hopefully a couple of months' worth of more) before it's all over.

Some Phoenix fans were sitting by us, and they were pissed because we had the lead throughout the whole game. After the game, they were being so mean, they were like "It wasn't a real win for you guys because Nash wasn't even playing." My cousin was like, "So? I didn't tell him to sit out." Then he turns to me, he goes, "Did you?" I said no, and he turns back to the jerks and goes, "See? It's not our fault." Then I became even more of a jerk though, and I said, "In all fairness, it's true though-- he might have cut the Laker lead in half. Maybe we would have won by only ten points instead of the twenty points we beat them by."

But I pretended I was saying it in a nice way. It was trash-talking disguised as pleasant post-game discussion. :p I think that pissed them off even more, and one of them gave me a look that could kill, the other one cussed under his breath, and they left. Whatever yo, they started it. Don't start crap with Laker fans on their own court if you can't take it. Am I right? :p

Hey, Zia, did the Lakers make the playoffs????

That's great! Congrats!! And I HATE when there are trash-talking folks next to you. We went to a Yankees-Blue Jays game a few years ago, and the guy in front of us was a Blue Jays fan. He would yell out things like "Hey, ARod, you can't hit the side of a barn!!" and yell encouragement to the Toronto players. My youngest daughter leaned over and whispered, "Mommy, I think he believes that the players can hear him." It was so funny. On the way out, though, after the Yankees had kicked their asses, he did lean over and congratulate us on the win, so he wasn't all bad.

Not sure, I haven't been following it... I'll check, maybe it's in the paper or something.

I'm surprised that guy had the decency to turn and congratulate you guys, most people won't do that.

I share in your jubilation!! Even though the Yankees just got their butts kicked by Toronto!! Toronto!! I need to eat some chocolate.

Gina, I read that the Astros are suing some insurance company because they wouldn't pay up when one of their players (can't remember who) was injured, and they tried to collect on his insurance.

SB, chocolate is good. How do guys cope with sports disappointments, I wonder?

I felt very relieved today at the Laker game, knowing it wouldn't be my last this year. Plus we clinched 7th seed, which means we play the Suns in the first round, not the Spurs. I'm starting my bitchiness early, here goes: the Suns can kiss my hot Citizens-jeans-clad ass. Yayyy playoffs!!

Btw, the Lakers won their 5th straight game... which leads me to ask; where was this spirit through the rest of the season? Did we really need to stress Zia out this much? :p Whatever, as long as they keep kickin' ass in the playoffs. And if they don't, it's okay; if I remained their biggest fan through last season (groan), I'll stick with them through anything. But please let's keep winning anyway!

Zia, don't you think that they would understand by now how we stress over these things? What are these players thinking?

Knowing that the pool is almost done and that I'll need to get into a bathing suit soon, the Yankees did their best to help me avoid chocolate by winning yesterday. About time!!

Another reason to hate Bonds...

Quote:
Barry shuns Gonzo
By Pedro Gomez
PHOENIX -- Before Wednesday night's game, the Arizona Diamondbacks honored Luis Gonzalez for becoming the 21st major league player ever to have 300 home runs and 500 doubles. It's a club that includes Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Frank Robinson, Cal Ripken and George Brett, among others. Gonzalez reached the milestone with a sixth-inning double Tuesday night.
The only other active major leaguer in the exclusive club is Barry Bonds. The Diamondbacks asked Bonds if he would be present on the field with Gonzalez, who has always had the utmost respect for Bonds and who obliged with an interview for an upcoming episode of Bonds' reality-type show, for the presentation.

Bonds declined, which may not have been the worst thing in the world for Gonzalez since fans might have been in a quandary over whether to cheer or boo.

Bonds did not join the majority of Giants players on the top step of their dugout applauding for Gonzalez.
What a jerk.

SB, yes, the player we're "dealing with" right now is Jeff Bagwell. It's been a tough situation. He was an incredible player for so many years, and he meant a lot to the club, but now, he's refusing to throw in the towel when it's probably the best time to do so. Because of his "determination," we weren't able to collect on an insurance claim and ended up losing about 15 million, I believe. I feel bad for him, but I've also lost a lot of respect for him.

Wow SB, who knew the Yankees were so considerate and practical? That's fantastic, they even take your summer figure into account when they're playing.

Gi, you're right, what a jerk. But it's true, if he went out there, he would have gotten booed and it would take away from the real event. I just emailed that to my cousin, who is like the biggest Bonds-hater ever... this is the one who ditched the Laker game just to go and boo him. I can't wait for his reaction; for sure it'll be funny.

Is this Bruno you're talking about, Zia?

I've got tickets to an Astros/Giants game next month, so I'll be sure to do my part in the fight against Bonds.

Maybe you could tell him that - I think he'd be proud.

I will give a cheer for Jose Vizcaino, however, when they announce the lineups - he was one of my boys last year.

Yeah, it's Bruno. I'll tell him, he'll be proud that the tradition is being carried on throughout the country. And by more Italians! :p

And I thought he'd email me back about the article, but instead he called and said, "I'm gonna go sit outside the Bonds estate with a shotgun. Wanna come? We'll make a SF trip out of it."

Oh, man, I used to be obsessed with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream!

I still like it, but when I was younger, I think I was addicted to that stuff. I would eat every bit of the plain ice cream and save all of the chunks for the very end.

I think I'm a lot like Rick Moranis' character in My Blue Heaven - "He has a system for everything!"

Of course it was chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Is there any other kind??? Actually, it's Edy's Toll House, which not only has cookie dough, but chunks of actual cookies too. Gina, I know exactly what you mean. Doesn't everyone save the cookie dough for last??

Chacon did well today, and the Yankees won this afternoon!! Hooray!! Does that mean I have to find another reason to eat ice cream??

This post is dedicated to Taylor Buchholz, our rookie wonder!

He went 8 2/3 innings today, allowing only two hits!

He would've had a complete game 1-hitter had Eric Bruntlett gotten the throw to first on time on a ground out. Poor Eric - I know he felt terrible...but he had an error on this play and allowed the game to keep going.

After that, Buchholz gave up his second hit, and Garner yanked him for Lidge to get the last out. *Crowd Boos* Luckily, Lights Out Lidge managed the last out and got us the win.

Anyway, it was incredible - I'm so proud of the kid.

Gina, Nice game!! I wish my boys had some good, young rookie pitcher. I mean, they were counting on Chacon and Wang to fill those roles, but they've been inconsistent thus far. Can't complain too much, though. It's still early.

My boys won again today!! Two in a row!! Cause for celebration, no??
