What's the best way to clean dvd's? I don't want to scratch my beloved Godfather dvd's while trying to clean them.

The reason I ask is because the PS2 is unable to read my Godfather DVD at the same spot and stops (breaking the flow of the movie)...whenever Fredo comes in to sit in Vito's room after dinner when Vito returned home.

I'm thinking it's dust or some particles that I can't see.

Thanks

Stanley: You want a shot? (offers liquor)
Blanche: No, I rarely touch it.
Stanley: There's some people that rarely touch it, but it touches them often.

Same way you clean CDs: use a soft, dry cloth. Rub the shiny surface of the CD from the center out to the edge, NOT around in a circle. Hold by the edges--don't touch the surface. Good luck.

I usually just blow on them and hope I don't end up spitting all over the disc.

Prevention is the best way - don't touch the surface, handle them carefully, and return them to their packaging as soon as your done with them grin

But yeah, you can buy CD/DVD cleaner kits - or do what Turnbull says... very carefully! Don't use paper towels or napkins as they leave particles behind. And don't use any chemicals except maybe a little water... (I've used dish soap and water for especially grungy CD's, but don't take that as a recommendation!)

Hi!

If in trouble I just breath on the CD surface and wipe it clean using a special napkin (one that's normally used to clean spectacle optics). Does wonders.

Best regards.

Alexander

Clean it with very cold water. Use your pointer finger in holding the disk. Get a tissue and tap on the surface of the disk. On the bottom part, try cleaning it away (outwards) from the middle. Happy cleaning smile

Buy a DVD cleaner. DVD cleaners are a small, CD Rom-resembling case. You put the DVD in the Cleaner, put in the special fluid, and turn it on. It is said to make the disc cleaner (OBVIOUSLY) and gives you better sound and picture quality. Unfortunately, they cost about $140.

Don't let nutters borrow them or people you don't trust or have no idea how to handle a CD at all. If you do you end up with crumbs, fingerprints, hairs and tiny animals infesting in them.

if you look at the bottom of our posts..you see your running total of posts....Notice how the number dosen't change after each one...So adding small lines may not get you a bigger post number or a higher total, or rank... Don't worry about not understanding me.....I talk with my hands alot...hahahahahaha

Right, you have to understand how this board works. It does change after each post. Like mine says 1480 but once i've posted this post right now it'll say 1481 and that goes for all the ones in this thread. In other threads it'll still be behind a few posts until i've posted there too.

Yours says 721 and once you've posted I prmise you it'll change to 722. That includes all your posts in this thread but not others.

I'm not bothered about upping my posts. I'm already at underboss, what more do I want? It's just the other unknowns making their bones.........

What if the dvd is scratched? Should I still attempt to clean it with dvd cleaning kit fluid or cold water? Or should I even attempt to use a cloth?

When I first opened my GF dvd collection. I opened each movie package to check if there were all the discs, and my damn GF2 disc one slipped out and got scratched. I didn't even get to open the cover, it just slipped. The damn packagers never pushed the disc securley, so it just slipped.

The same thing happened to my friend with his Saving Ryan's Privates disc.

And my sister's dvd also slipped out when first opening it, but luckily it wasn't scratched.

However, the disc still reads fine, but I dunno if the audio was affected because during Roth's birthday cake scene and the presidential palace, the audio seems way out of sync with the picture. I know these scenes are dubbed, but the video isn't as bad as how it is out of sync on my dvd.

Oh yeah, should I clean a scratched dvd?

Maxell has a disc repair kit fairly cheap (about 5 bucks). It's got a cloth and this pack of goo (looks like really thick snot or mucus!). Yous dab the goo on the disc then clean it (like when you're simply cleaning your DVD). I've used it a few times, sometimes with great results, sometimes with no result at all! I s'pose it depends how badly scratched it is. But you might try it. It beats springin' bigger bucks for a new DVD! wink

if the dvd still reads fine, leave it that way. DVDs are sensitive not like the Laser Disc. its better leaving it that way than buying the box set again . . . smile

Question..if you just bought the disc. Why not take it back. You have your receipt and it shows that you just got it. There shouldn't be any problem as long as you are getting the same disc back. Not just watching it and taking it back for something else.
