What's the best way to clean dvd's? I don't want to scratch my beloved Godfather dvd's while trying to clean them.
The reason I ask is because the PS2 is unable to read my Godfather DVD at the same spot and stops (breaking the flow of the movie)...whenever Fredo comes in to sit in Vito's room after dinner when Vito returned home.
I'm thinking it's dust or some particles that I can't see.
Thanks

Prevention is the best way - don't touch the surface, handle them carefully, and return them to their packaging as soon as your done with them But yeah, you can buy CD/DVD cleaner kits - or do what Turnbull says... very carefully! Don't use paper towels or napkins as they leave particles behind. And don't use any chemicals except maybe a little water... (I've used dish soap and water for especially grungy CD's, but don't take that as a recommendation!) JG
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

Hi!
If in trouble I just breath on the CD surface and wipe it clean using a special napkin (one that's normally used to clean spectacle optics). Does wonders.
Best regards.
Alexander

put the dvd back to its case after watching, and never touch the surface to avoid fingerprints. . --------------------- I command this family right or wrong. . .it was not what I wanted!

Buy a DVD cleaner. DVD cleaners are a small, CD Rom-resembling case. You put the DVD in the Cleaner, put in the special fluid, and turn it on. It is said to make the disc cleaner (OBVIOUSLY) and gives you better sound and picture quality. Unfortunately, they cost about $140.

Oh yeah, always hold the disc on the edges.

What if the dvd is scratched? Should I still attempt to clean it with dvd cleaning kit fluid or cold water? Or should I even attempt to use a cloth?
When I first opened my GF dvd collection. I opened each movie package to check if there were all the discs, and my damn GF2 disc one slipped out and got scratched. I didn't even get to open the cover, it just slipped. The damn packagers never pushed the disc securley, so it just slipped.
The same thing happened to my friend with his Saving Ryan's Privates disc.
And my sister's dvd also slipped out when first opening it, but luckily it wasn't scratched.
However, the disc still reads fine, but I dunno if the audio was affected because during Roth's birthday cake scene and the presidential palace, the audio seems way out of sync with the picture. I know these scenes are dubbed, but the video isn't as bad as how it is out of sync on my dvd.
Oh yeah, should I clean a scratched dvd?

Oh yeah, should I clean a scratched dvd? if the dvd still reads fine, leave it that way. DVDs are sensitive not like the Laser Disc. its better leaving it that way than buying the box set again . . . --------------------- I command this family right or wrong . . . it was not what I wanted!
