During the year I look back at the Pre Season AP Poll to see who was for real and who was a figment. Not too many surprises in the top five:
Preseason v. Jan 6
1. UConn - No Change
2. Duke - No Change
3. Michigan State - Not even a vote
4. Arizona - moved up to # 3
5. Missouri - 6 votes

Jan. 6 v. PreSeason
4. Stanford - # 19
5. Wake Forest - # 20

Last years winner, Syracuse: Pre Season # 7, now # 17. Note on Mich. St. their record is 5-6 and 5 of the loses were to ranked opponents. Unusual scheduling for early in the year. Usually everyone pads there schedules with creampuffs. The Conference play is beginning so let's see where they are in a month.

Another Note: Last year the Big East had the best NCAA tourney record and the winner. They also took 1st and 2nd in the NIT, the women won at UConn and the only team to beat UConn last year was Villanova, also Big East. Will the Big East repeat last year's phenomenal season?

A bit rude and overstated OA. Is Duke overrated at #2? Probably. They lost to Purdue by 10 a few weeks ago, but throttled Texas by 28 pts. Other than that they haven't had any stiff competition - but who has except Mich. St. Wait til they play Wake and NC then we'll see what they are made of. You have to admit Mike K. puts a good team on the floor. If we're talking overrated, you might want to put UConn in there too. They just squeaked out a one point, last second win over Rutgers.

I won't consider Mizzou overrated, but so far, they have been fairly disappointing. I think Quin Snyder is not even an average floor coach. While he is an excellent recruiter, you have to wonder with the Clemons incident. However, he's young, I'm definetly going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I'll know that he will grow wiser.

Duke is not overrated. From what I've seen they deserve to be ranked #2.

But if it's any consolation, I have a friend who may agree with you.

I think Kentucky will be one of the # 1 teams this year even though i hate them. They play the best D-fense around. All they have to do is get there offense up and running.

Good team, but somehow Tubby can't get it done. I'd go with Pitino's Cardinals before Kentuck.

Indiana has Patrick Ewing Jr. I can't wait until the Knicks draft him! Because if they don't, all us Knicks fans will revolt.

Time for an AP Poll upate:

Preseason v. Jan 26.

1. UConn - down to #6
2. Duke - up to #1
3. Mich St. - no votes, still
4. Ariz. - down to # 9
5. Missouri - not votes, still

Jan. 26 v. Preseason

1. Duke - up from # 2
2. Stanford - up from # 19
3. St. Joes' - up from # 17
4. Louisville - up from # 16
5. Kentucky - up from # 11

Where's the Big East, Big 10, Big 12?

And that overrated Duke beat the overrated UConn . The ACC are now beating up on each other. note: Florida State, 75 votes from zero.
note: So. Carolina #24 from no votes. Lousiville moidah'd Cinncinati. Let's see how they all fair in another couple of weeks when they are into the heart of league play. Go 'Nova.

Mar 7 vs. Week 1 AP Poll

1. St Joseph's - # 17
2. Stanford - # 19
3. Gonzaga - # 10
4. Mississippi St. - 9 votes
5. Duke - # 2

Week 1 vs. Mar. 7

1. Connecticut - # 9
2. Duke - #5
3. Michigan St. - 70 votes
4. Arizona - # 21
5. Missouri - No votes

What a difference a few months make.
Should be an interesting NCAA tournament. Is St Joe's for real? Will the Big Boys eat them up?
Three cheers for the little guy.

If St. Joe's makes it far in the tourney (I hope they do), I don't think they'll last very long (I do hope they prove me wrong). I'm for Gonzaga & North Carolina. That sucks that Stanford made it all the way to the last game of their season undefeated & then screwed it all up. What a shame.

I-12,
You wonder how much that loss took out of Stanford.

But nevermind: Let's Go 'Nova, Let's Go! The Wildcats of Villanova "upset" Seton Hall last night and play Providence tonight. They need a win tonight to make it into the NIT. Providence beat them 100-74 during the year. Revenge!
